I've removed the photographs depicting several U.S. soldiers raping an Iraqi woman, as they are far too graphic. Yes they were that bad.

La Voz de Aztlan
Los Angeles, Alta California - May 2, 2004 - (ACN) The release, by CBS News, of the photographs showing the heinous sexual abuse and torture of Iraqi POW's at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison has opened a Pandora's box for the Bush regime. Apparently, the suspended US commander of the prison where the worst abuses took place, Brigadier General Janis Karpinski, has refused to take the fall by herself and has implicated the CIA, Military Intelligence and private US government contractors in the torturing of POW's and in the raping of Iraqi women detainees as well.
Brigadier General Janis Karpinski said to the Washington Post that Military Intelligence, rather than the Military Police, dictated the treatment of prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison. "The prison, and that particular cellblock where the events took place, were under the control of the Military Intelligence command," Brigadier General Karpinski said to the Washington Post Saturday night in a telephone interview from her home in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Brigadier General Karpinski, who commanded the 800th Military Police Brigade, described a high-pressure Military Intelligence and CIA command that prized successful interrogations. A month before the alleged abuses and rapes occurred, she said, a team of CIA, Military Intelligence officers and private consultants under the employ of the US government came to Abu Ghraib. "Their main and specific mission was to give the interrogators new techniques to get more information from detainees," she said. Today, new photographs were sent to La Voz de Aztlan from confidential sources depicting the shocking rapes of two Iraqi women by what are purported to be US Military Intelligence personnel and private US mercenaries in military fatigues. It is now known that hundreds of these photographs had been in circulation among the troops in Iraq. The graphic photos were being swapped between the soldiers like baseball cards.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, one Mexican-American soldier told La Voz de Aztlan, "Maybe the officers didn't know what was going on, but everybody else did. I have seen literally hundreds of these types of pictures." Many of the pictures was destroyed last September when the luggage of soldiers was searched as they left Iraq, he said
An investigation, led by Army Major General Antonio M. Taguba, identified two military intelligence officers and two civilian contractors for the Army as key figures in the abuse cases at the Abu Ghraib prison. In an internal report on his findings, Major General Taguba said he suspected that the four were "either directly or indirectly responsible for the abuses at Abu Ghraib and strongly recommended disciplinary action."
The Taguba report states that "military intelligence interrogators and other U.S. Government Agency interrogators actively requested that Military Police guards set physical and mental conditions for favorable interrogation of witnesses." The report noted that one civilian interrogator, a contractor from a company called CACI International and attached to the 205th Military Intelligence Brigade, "clearly knew his instructions" to the Military Police equated to physical and sexual abuse. It is not known whether these instructions included, or led to, the raping of Iraqi women detainees as well.

This is why we must not only support the resistance but guide young minds from joining the imperialist Military, they strip their own troops of their humanity and force them to commit these vile acts, not that i believe these Army pigs had any anyway.

Im not convinced by those pics.

Although some pics are real http://www.aztlan.net/torture_iraqi_pows.htm and
100% fact abuse did happen at Abu Ghraib I remain to be convinced that the "Rape" and "sexual assault" pics are real.
I could fabricate a bunch of pics showing the Brit army "raping" Irish women if I had too using a prostitute and a few hundred pounds.
No doubt it happened but those pics of it are dodgy as fuck.

The bastards who did this should be tortured heinously, killed, and buried in some trash dump somewhere.

They collectively humiliated women and men, stripped them of their dignities and humanities, and made them feel like shit for the rest of their lives.

What's even worse?

Apparently we're fighting terrorism.

It seems we're the real terrorists here.

Fuck the US and its empire.

There isn't a one of us on RevLeft who doesn't believe that, but can you blame us for wanting terrible things to happen to the people directly responsible for this kind of heinous shit?

Hey im with you, but posting bullshit about killing a few people who are part of a larger evil is silly no?
If a newbie to communism saw them comments they may think we are all idiots with no ideological or strategic ideas to implement.

Also we need to stop saying this is more horrific than the killing of over a million innocents, this may be extra emotional but we seem so desensitized to the mass murder or genocide of a people that we dont have the same feelings of revulsion disgust as we do towards rape.

Absolutely disgusting. I'm utterly repulsed by the actions of my country in this matter. The worst part is that I doubt a lot of the soldiers who committed these acts will not be brought to justice, because while the Nazis were not allowed to get away with "I was just following orders", it seems that American soldiers are mostly exempt from that rule.

You and others have a point in arguing for the pictures to be left up. It's not because I want my "hands to be washed clean" of it - regardless of what you think - but just because I wasn't sure if there was a forum rule thing for "inappropriate images" or whatever, as well as the fact that they're really really disturbing.

And I'm hardly a liberal. Don't know why you've got to jump to conclusions.

Inflammatory.

No one is arguing against revolutionary struggle except the people in OI. Where the fuck did you get that idea?

Right, because this one post you made will be considered the cornerstone of all communist thought for "newbies" who come onto this forum... there's definitely no good theoretical or strategic discussions here

Seriously dude, you're being unnecessarily inflammatory and rude towards other users here. What's your problem? No one is trying to fight you, but you're acting like we're all persecuting you. Calm the fuck down.

Does someone know if these acts of rape were widely reported in the US mainstream media?
Also do you know if there are criminal investigations or trials ongoing regarding this?

The answer to both is no.

We're the "good guys"...something like this can't be spun in a positive light, so its left untouched by the mainstream media. This is a whole other world than making prisoners pile up naked, inexcusable as that was. If it got widely reported on, civilian support for the US military would drop like a rock, which would likely impact the United States' foreign policy and imperialist efforts.

I mean, think if you're just an average, politically moderate citizen and all of a sudden you find this out...I doubt you'd stay a big supporter of US foreign intervention.

I don't know if the entire mainstream media is going to cover up all of this stuff, if it's outrageous it'd get better ratings. It's not necessarily in their interest to protect the federal government and the Army, just their personal investments.

I didn't say it'd be covered up, I said it'd be ignored. But you do raise a good point that the mainstream media has a profit motive, and a story like this would push ratings through the roof.

If I'm wrong, and I deeply hope I am, then great...more people will have their eyes opened.

I don't think that rape ISN'T happening, I mean of course it is. Even conservatives generally admit soldiers will rape women. And part of the Abu Ghraib allegations were accompanied by a lot of accusations of rape against both men and women. So, I think it's very believable that this evil, evil shit is happening. I just don't know if it's being widely reported, probably for the same reasons a lot of women don't report rape in general, but I can imagine it'd be even more aggravated in a country under occupation.

I actually heard an allegation was raised in the testimony before Congress, that Blackwater had a brothel being run for their mercenaries, including little girls. Pretty much heinous beyond stomaching, even worse when you think these assholes are being paid with our tax dollars.

I think the thing about the media, is that while journalism is a good and necessary thing for a democratic society, the corporate media tend to be a bunch of unprincipled scumbags, or at least, they work for a bunch of unprincipled, ratings conscious scumbags looking to sell airtime.
