Nationalism's bad. We know that.

What I'm intrested to know is whether it's still "nationalism" if say, one half of a nation, or even a town, allows itself to identify by that area in the same way that patriotic groups identify with an entire country. We already have "postcode gangs" in the UK, who fiercly identify by the first letters and numbers of thier postcode. Obviously, postcode gangs do little for building communities.

So, should it be enoucouraged for the benefit of community co-operation that people feel proud of thier local area, or will it only lead to smaller scale xenophobia in the future?

You got it the wrong way around, you bloody Southern fairy!
I am trying to be serious though lol. Should it be encouraged to have a "Northern" or "Southern" identity in the UK, or even identifying by your town.

He/she is discussing whether or not this creates a bigger sense of community and can thus be productively used by Communists for the sake of developing society. The answer idk, as long as this idea does not stir hatred or contempt for other regions it is not a problem, and i think in part regionalism to an extend is inevitable.
