Found them at PlayStation's Home app. They seem to portray exactly what corporations and the government in general want people to be: stupid.

Better yet:

Bourgeoise has the brains--does the Proletariat have the balls? The Revolution is yours for the taking.

The question is still out.

Sometimes the stupidest, simplest design will get you money in the market.

But, if you don't want to be stupid the best way is to develop non-commercial interests: reading, community activities, education, and sometimes the internet (if you know where to go; obviously the internet is basically an ecommerce tool, not an information highway). Finding non-commercial interests is an option in most of those areas.

i beg to differ.

There is just so much free things out there. Take a look at the guthenberg project for exemple.

Yeah and when the Government ran it it was PURELY an information network (commercial traffic was prohibited). It was of Lexis Nexis quality. Project Gutenberg (not guthenberg) is good too though.

There are actually a lot of sites like that. I found one that illegally hosts computer programming books.

its not up to you man. its up to the people

i doubt advertising is annoying for most of the people, what annoying is that the people dosnt decide what allowed and what not.

Personally, i think some advertisement, if well done wouldnt do no harm.

IF there is 2 factories producing different brand of drink, lets say, titopop and proudhonpop, well they will be in a sort of competition and i think if well done an advertisement contest would be ok.

People love well done ads, they are like arts.

I'd nail that

Advertising is a tool of consumerism which is in itself a tool of capitalism. Advertising causes women to be anorexic, people to be materialistics, kids to be greedy at Christmas and gives an unfair advantage to rich corporations. Advertising fills up my TV time with worthless crap, spoils sports events and makes me pay more for the goods I buy.

Nope, I don't like advertising.

advertising dont cause this, lack of belonging to a community and lack of education and social contacts cause this.

if it were a just world, companies shouldnt be able to encroach public space, airwaves and cyberspace with advertising. Especially big companies.

Leave me alone, if i want a t-shirt i'll let you know.

EDIT: while i'm on the subject i'm sick to death of those fucking pkr.com pop ups everytime i start windows live :cursing:

Beg to differ.

Advertising causes people to be dissatisfied and want other things all the time.

The psychological effects of advertising have been said to be the cause of a lot of people's low self-esteem and unhappiness in the West.

artwork doesnt need to be advertising.

it would be far better if all the billlboards were replaced with art for art's sake.

Well that's probably about 90% of advertising.

They lies and misrepresent things too. Like car companies actually trying to convince you that their cars are actually environmentally friendly when at best they are just less harmful.

IcarusAngel

The only way to truly understand the pros/cons of an automobile or a tv is in a public forum, where there would be experts there, and representatives of each company (or cooperative).

Furthermore, the 'choices' we have are the choice between shit and shit. Could products be designed better? In most cases yes, they aren't because corporations want to make more money, so resources aren't used as efficiently as they could be. Cars should be getting 40 MPG by now easily.

This is why resources should be placed directly into the hands of the working class, because what incentive would there to provide other members of the community with inferior products? You'd just be getting less back in return for your work is all, so you'd want to use the highest quality possible.

Technically, there is enough food to feed everybody three times over - our inefficient market system prevents this from happening. And there probably are enough resources to design nice cars, appliances, and so on, that LAST, because you're actually saving resources if you make products with a high longevity rate.

I'm not sure I follow. Propaganda is not the same as commercial advertisement- but now you mention it party political broadcasts are a load of shit most of the time anyway- if you believe them you'll believe anything! LOL!!! So yeah.... let's abolish them too. In fact, I'll be honest, I would like TV to be abolished other than for cultural and educational purposes.

TV IS THE OPIUM OF THE PEOPLE!!!!

Propaganda is a different type of advertisement, but an advertisement nonetheless. Why do we not abolish every single type of political propaganda, including communist one?

You say that all advertisement is bad. So let's abolish it. Every single one.

Okay!!! But I think you know the difference between consumerist capitalist advertisment and political stuff too;)

Anyway, in my anarchist commonweath there would be no political parties so there would be no problem.

Is communist literature also not to be consumed? The videos to be watched? The books to be read? There might be a difference, but basically the arguments you use serve to justify the elimination of both

Advertisements and propaganda are not the same. Advertisements are about goods for sale; but in the real world advertisements are about corporations providing info on products they created with little to no public insight, so it's hard to determine the truth of the matter. And of course corporations have no right to the land in the first place.

Propaganda is about selling people on an ideology, like who should control the resources. It's about making intellectual arguments for x or y ideology, although since Hitler it has been associated with using the same type of distortions that appear in advertisements to support your political ideology. Propaganda has been used by private dictators in this way, and that is another way markets and dicatatorships are a lot alike.

Anyway, honest debate about issues, products or how goods should be used, is how we should sell our ideas, or determine how many resources are needed for what, not capitalism and distortion.

I dare you prove any sort of left-libertarian sign using some sort of analogy with hitler, and then claim it is a common theme among left-libertarians.

Yeah. I hate that. I pay for my Internet service and then every two minutes I have ads slowing down the screen or blocking things binging adware and tracking cookies too. I open my email up and there are ads all over the place, half the time for stuff in America where I don't even live!!!

The worst ones of all are the "Congratulations you are the 999,999th visitor to this site (yeah right) and now we are going to try and convince you you've actually won something".:(

So, do you oppose the ads in Revleft as well?

Also, you surely have noticed the advertisements on the board, Please be aware that the advertisements are a necessary evil to cover the monthly running costs for our server. But you can easily remove it from your screens by donating $10 or more to RevLeft, learn more here

What's brilliant is that they are using the word "critique" incorrectly.

Maybe they're just trying to justify their own inferiority.
