I'm sorry if this post appeals mainly to student comrades but..

holy shitfuck i'm sick of people swallowing the profs' revisionist bullshit about "hi everyone i sold out and now im going to act like the voice of the third world and talk shit about the 'marxist discourse' that kept me back from getting a business degree 40 years ago"

no student who incorporates postmodernist ideas into their essays or daily speech has any respect from me, whatsoever, as a thinker or human being. the "postmodernist" bullshit is completely devoid of any actual positions other than the mysticism of positionlessness so parroting it proves only that you are a spineless follower who would rather piss in the global stream of consciousness than exert an iota of brainpower coming up with an original thought or sympathizing with the world's oppressed (who officially no longer exist)

i barely held myself back from slapping a colleague other day when they noticed how much of that awful "marxist discourse" there was in some article from the 70's. thanks, asshole, for pointing out that some people saw past the shitty clothes and discotheques to actually care. in the meantime why don't you refashion yourself into a pile of shit and deconstruct

I mean, isn't post-modernism essentially that people take from a text different things based on their perspective? The fuck is wrong with that?

that sounds more like Wolfgang Iser's reader response theory than post-modernism

perhaps the most common, if not also apt, definition of post-modernity is, in the words of jean-francois lyotard, an "incredulity towards metanarratives"

Accusing an author of "Marxist discourse" is not a negative criticism. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a fucking cretin.

Deconstruct their statements. Plus points if you do it in French. Especially if you are French.

On what grounds do postmodernists base their "incredulity toward metanarratives"?

Post-modernism (at least in sociology) suggests that everything around us in society is full of constructed meanings, but these meanings can mean different things to different people, and it is their job to deconstruct the meanings as they see fit.

IMO, it's basically an unnecessarily confusing way of being extremely PC and saying "Everyone has their own opinion." So discussing anything with a post-modernist is pointless really, except for intellectual masturbation

TBH postmodernism is a lot more than 'meta-narratives' and whoever your text book says is a 'postmodernist'.
