Can anybody post, or point me in the direction of a transcript of soundbite of tony benn stating something along the lines of

"the people of Warsaw did not rebel because they wanted their water supply privitised"

That isn't a quote, but its the gist of what he says.
He said it in parliament after being mocked by the tories.

first one to do it gets my eternal love and respect

the gist is basically the fall of the iron curtain was not this boon everyone made it out to be--that he feels that the post-glasnost revolts were not all liberal bourgeois, but movements for co-ops or more decentralized socialism.

Needless to say, they failed.

I get the gist I want to find the real quote.
Basically the Tories were mocking Labour when the USSR collapsed and then Tony Benn responded saying something along the lines of

"the people of Romania did not rise up because they wanted a poll tax"

following?

Come on someone get this quote. Sounds like he really gives it to an explicably arrogant and rejoicing load of tories, after an event that really must have made them think that it was time for labour or any party of the left to give up and fold.

How long ago was this? Was it on the radio as a playback to a much earlier exchange? Or did it actually happen the other night?

if it was after 1am it would have been the bbc world service programme I think that often includes a mish mash of stuff.

It wasn't a dream was it?

maybe it was but he definately fucking said it.
The tories were mocking labour like ''the labour flag is palest pink''
then tony benn kicked all their arsed. I've just paraphrased it
