Sounds like a clear cut case of illegal change to contract, which means that any dismissals will be automatically classed as unfair in legal terms. Of course, the law doesn't actualy matter when it comes to industrial disputes anymore, as we learned during the run up to the BA cabin crew dispute. Expect that same ruling that, it'd be too "inconvienant" for the public for the fire brigade to stand up for thier rights.

Interesting stuff, firefighters are usually quite militant. They were able to strike late last year without it being legally blocked, so I'm optimistic about the possibilities of them doing the same again.

Some Nazi Germans doesn't make all Germans Nazis.

Yes, and often so do police (though they usually aren't allowed to strike). Some unions (like those in any other industry) are more corrupted by pro-capitalist plants than others - it mainly depends on the level of authoritarianism vs democracy in the union.

You want to talk about reactionary? Look at yourself.
Anyone who puts themselves entirely at the service at thier local community's lives deserves every ounce of respect in thier fight for better conditions. Firefighters are exactly the kinds of people that we should all aspire to be in our own ways.

No way! My dad's a Republican and a union worker, and all firefighters are apparently reactionary and also belong to unions! Man, we should quit supporting unions now because they're clearly reactionary organizations.

I seriously hope your post was a shitty joke.

It's especially bizarre cos (as I said) firefighters are known for being an especially militant section of the working class, at least over here. They're one of the very few major unions to have disaffiliated from the Labour Party because of its anti-working class policies and (for those that're into that kind of thing) they're affiliated to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
