View Full Version : Aaron Rodgers for NFL MVP

All you 'american football is rugby for wimps' motherfuckers can fuck the fuck off right fucking now. Doubtless this will get more haters involved in this thread but it was just my little appeal to the more sensible wing of the aforementioned group.

Now that I have that out of my system, back to the topic. Yes- I said it. Aaron Rodgers for MVP. A Packers QB without the numbers 4 or 15 stamped on his chest. Shocking as it may be he deserves it. His second season as a starter and he has already been arguably the MVP of the fantasy world not once, but twice. But stats aren't all that matter, right? So take into account his 11-5 record despite taking an NFL worst 50 sacks and he should be near the front of the race, no doubt!

Yet this isn't the case. On NFL.com he isn't even mentioned in a poll for who should be the MVP. You may say this is because he is just a wild card team- other candidates like Manning, Rivers, Favre, Brees, all have #1 and #2 seeded teams. But Chris Johnson's 2000 yard season has nearly everyone parading him around as a frontrunner for MVP despite being on the 8-8 Tennessee Titans.

4,434 passing yards, 30 TDs, only 7 INTs, a 64.7% completion rating and a passer rating of 103.2; not to mention his body of work with his legs: 316 yards with 5 rushing TDs. Add the yards and touchdowns up and you have 4,750 total yards (more than any other player in the NFL except Matt Schaub) and 35 total touchdowns (second only to Drew Brees by one, who actually had a line that looked to have been paid by his team to play). Not only this but he is the only passer in the top 5 passers by yards with a QB rating over 100. It's become pretty obvious to be who the MVP is. I can only hope it's as clear to everyone else.

Aaron Rodgers rocks.

Packers FTW.
This. And he's only 26! The future is so bright you need to claw out your eyes so you can do something besides be driven mad by the brightness. :)

Oh, my naïveté... and here I was all self-satisfied thinking my opening sentences had warned off all who wished to defile this glorious thread, oh RA, crusher of dreams. :(

There is the argument that american football is rugby for smart people, seeing as the padding negates many of the more gruesome injuries that would be sustained otherwise (think the Facebook group dedicated to it (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2315877709)). Not that there aren't some pretty ugly collisions (think Joe Theismann) in our apparently watered-down version, but the concussions must have been cut down exponentially when helmets and full facemasks were made mandatory in american football. I don't have any stats proving this, but it'd seem like common sense kinda, ya know?

Alright, he has two GREAT tackles, the defensive MVP and the best receiving combo in the league behind Fitzgerald and Bouldin. Not a MVP yet..

He took a lot of abuse before Tauscher solidified the line and Clifton stopped getting injured; he still had amazing stats. About Woodson, I'm not sure how that relates to Rodgers MVP candidacy. Maybe in the win column, but we still did fine without Kampman and Harris, so I'm not convinced Woodson (or ANY defensive player for that matter) was the end all be all in terms of our 11 wins. Not even remotely convinced. And someone forgot about Moss and Welker. Rodgers spreads the ball around and would've done great with whatever recievers he had. Hell, Spencer Havner had as many TDs as Greg Jennings, who many people consider to be our best reciever.

Da Bearssssss. Bah humbug. :p

I don't get many chances to watch Packers games but from what I've heard on ESPN, NFL.com and the like he's been doing a much better job getting rid of the ball. Eventually maybe he'll be as good as Peyton Manning at getting rid of the ball one day. Only 10 sacks on the year I think, ffs.

I herd Farve is doing pretty good with those vikings....

Oh and I just want my pats to at least beat the ravens. Considering its pretty much an all around rebuilding year getting into the second round of the playoffs wouldn't be that bad. (i know its a little off topic but you don't get a real football discussion around here to often)

Uncle Hank

I also heard Favre had a RB that scored 18 touchdowns that took a hell of a lot of the pressure off of him.

I think your team has a decent shot at beating the Ravens. Make them one-dimensional passing and Flacco's bound to make some mistakes. Also your passing game has some favorable matchups even with Wes Welker out.

Rodgers is good but he ain't MVP material just yet in my humble (actually fuck humble, I'm a Colts fan for fuck sake) opinion. As much as I hate him and his pesky Chargers I'd have to say Rivers, out of all the QBs at least, should be MVP. Manning will probably get it after he wins the Super Bowl though. :p

Uncle Hank

Why does Rivers deserve it over Rodgers, and how isn't Rodgers MVP material? Rivers has a pro-bowl TE, one (maybe two, Sproles is pretty great) pro-bowl caliber running backs, and at least one pro-bowl caliber receiver in Vincent Jackson. Not to minimize what Rodgers has but seriously, Rivers has the better offense. Rodgers may have the better defense but that defense can account for at least one of the Packer's 5 losses. Maybe some of the wins were due to the defense but Philip Rivers can be accused of the same.

As for your Colts winning the Super Bowl... we'll see. Btw Super Bowl doesn't fact into MVP voting, as I'm sure you know. :p

I think it should. If Manning gets it he'll have the most MVPs of any player ever (4), as I'm sure you know. :p In all seriousness I think Dallas or Green Bay have a better chance of winning it. Maybe the Chargers. :(

Well that's what we have the Super Bowl MVP award. :p Though it's unfortunately greatly underestimated in importance it would seem. Being a Packers fan I love being the thought of the most dangerous team in the playoffs, but I never underestimate a team that should've gone 16-0. :) I'm not a big fan of the whole classless hyperagressivness thing Rivers has going on, so solidarity on the whole wanting the Chargers to lose thing, comrade. :thumbup1:

Oh and the best player of the decade is without a doubt Manning, unless you can find me a rival who has won as many games this decade, won at least one Super Bowl and is gonna go down in history as one of the five best QBs ever. He also wins funniest commercials of the decade starring a football player award.

Jake Delhomme.

The other four?

Idunno, something like Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Dan Marino, John Elway?

I'm not sure I'd have Favre in there, but the other three look good. What about Unitas? Am I allowed more than one Colt? :D

Why the hell not Favre? He deserves to be in the discussion for best football player of all time, why not QB as well? I now hate the guy but he deserves recognition. And it's your list, go ahead.

I'd have Elway, Manning, Marino, Montana, Unitas. Favre would be top 10 definitely. Brady wouldn't be. :)

PS - Favre is a **** for going to the Vikes. Can't see him getting that second ring.

Not a bad list... not a bad list at all. I hate to say it but three super bowl rings and a few single season passing records will get you into the HoF. :(

I know, right? I'm surprised he didn't just retire after he played us twice, I felt like it was all about revenge. Dumb as hell.

Have you even watched a Raiders game?

Uncle Hank
12th January 2010, 00:53
No, I'm used to a thing called winning, watching DA RAIDAS play and rooting for them would be too depressing. :)

Jaykay. But there were at least four calls the refs fucked up in the Packers Cards game including the facemask on Rogers on the last play and offensive pass interference on Fitzgerald on at least one of his TDs.

Green Bay just need to put in a better effort in the regular season to get that homefield advantage! :tt1:

If we'd won two easily winnable games (Bucs and Steelers) we woulda had homefield advantage. :(
