lol since it was a somewhat anti-fascist/anti-apartheit project from left social-democrat and communist circles ? Alot of episodes are clear allegories of the rise of fascism (dolf and his national crowparty, and his corporate financial supporters), anti-apartheit struggle (alfreds girlfriend winnie is based on Winnie Mandela) and anti-imperialism (staunch opposition to the gulf war) and alot of corporate/insitutional critiques.
One of the main voiceactors in dutch (Father Mole) was a prominent Communist Party member (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frits_Lambrechts). Herman van Veen, the creator of the series is a partyless oldschool social-democrat who recently recieved deaththreats from PVV party members (party of Geert Wilders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialist_Movement_in_the_Netherlands)) for comparing his party and his extreme-right populist policies to the NSB (national socialist movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Socialist_Movement_in_the_Netherlands))
even wikipedia mentions it in english
The cartoon is also notable for the political themes on which it touches. In the cartoon, Alfred fights against a fascist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fascist) dictator, takes in refugees fleeing from a country under Apartheid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apartheid) (with white geese and black ducks), saves whales against hunters, and oversees the changeover of his country from an absolute monarchy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Absolute_monarchy) to a constitutional monarchy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_monarchy). Such themes are far from typical in a children's cartoon, and form a big part of Alfred J. Kwak's appeal. Other episodes have satirised the Japanese love of golf, and criticised countries which have sharp north/south economic divides.
K. Rokodil is the major of Polderstad, the capital of Great Waterland and is a true capitalist, only out to increase his capital. He often clashes with alfred, who wants to prevent the injustice that Rokodil inflicts on some animals and tries to prevent this. K. Rokodil is als the one who killed alfred family, but Alfred would never find out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8ZEwd7o-mQ

Well, DR explained it pretty well. Note that AJ Kwak is meant for children's audiences of 5-8 years old, so the amount of serious themes in the show (political and others) are really quite remarkable. The show is full of capitalist characters who are willing to go at great lengths for profit, there is the rise of a fascist regime (explicitly shown to be made possible by the bourgeoisie and by the clergy), etc. It's definitely a great series, and they don't make them like this anymore. :(

First Squad is a movie, Black Lagoon (with the JRA guy) is a series. There is also a character who was in FARC, but she leaves them after coming to the conclusion that they lost their revolutionary way to becoming drug dealers, and then BECOMES A MAID AND BODY GUARD FOR AN ARISTOCRATIC FAMILY! And let's not forget the Spetznaz officer turned mob boss. Black Lagoon is action packed, and very philosophical, but not the place to go searching for leftist themes. I still recommend it because it is quite entertaining.

It's so obvious...the smurfs had no leaders, worked together in a "commune," and their enemy was profit-hungry evil Gargamel!

Miss Tickle from "Mission: Magic!", an old psychedelic '70's cartoon with musician Rick Springfield (it's on dvd). She's talking about various slightly-veiled Marxist concepts and equal distribution, then Rick belts out a hippie song about everything being 'Free And Easy', etc. The most radical and trippy children's cartoon I know of...
It lasted one season.

Not Marge, but Homer's mom in a few episodes. I don't think Weather Underground was mentioned in them, but she was obviously based on them.

Also Homer himself is a communist, proven in 4 different episodes.
the first one was him siding with the Hoxhaist kid in a discussion with Lisa. The second one was him and the famous USSR re-emerges one. The third was when he took the Communist Party card from his father in the episode of the secret society. And the fourth is when his father finds out he was a card-carrying member of the Communist Party.
"The machinery of capitalism is oiled with the blood of the workers"- Homer Simpson
Also he got elected head of his unionand his best friends are Lenny and Carl :p.

Bamse (a Swedish popular cartoon character aimed for children 3-8 years old) would probably be considered a leftist in most countries. The comics started in 1973 in Sweden and is heavily influenced by the spirit of that time. In Sweden at the 1970's, the kinds of discussions going on in revleft.com would have been seen as mainstream. It is basically social democratic in its outlines, but in some episodes, it had clear anti-imperialist messages.

Alred J Kwak seems brilliant though.

Dennis the Menace is clearly an anarchist, as can be seen by his wearing of black and red, all the time, and the fact that his enemies are the rich and privlaged, as well as his repeated attempts to destroy the state.

cant remember about the series but the books of barbapapa has some serious leftists themes.
in barbapapa's new house (http://www.naughtykitty.org/barbapapa/newhouse.html) they squat a new house because the old one gets to small, when they are evicted there by the evil gentrification machines they build an utopian comune in the country and fight the evil machines with paint and glue bombs.
and if you study the drawing closely you can see in rooms of the barbapapakids barbapappa version of famous blackpower and may 68 posters.
