Im Matt im at Hull University and a member of the AF. I sort of came over to anarchism by accident really, as I was getting more radicalised i had started reading some marxist texts and just trying to find where my politics fitted, but then i found a copy of Alexander Berkmans "what is Anarchist Communism" in a second hand book shop and it was exactly what I was looking for. I started reading more anarchist theory and looking at anarchist groups and joined the AF at London Anarchist bookfair.

Yo, Matt!

Welcome aboard.

Do you by any chance speak/have studied some Dutch at Hull uni? If so, join us at the Dutch forum, if you like!

Best,

Scotty

Anarchism seems to become popular in Europe! Is there much student activity geared towards fundamental change to the political or economic system at Hull University?

I study politics, Ive only met one dutch guy at Hull.

The UK student movement is a bit naff, compared to mainland europe there is no real mass movement. Our National Union is just a career starter for Labour students, and the Radical Students havnt got the numbers. The marketisation process in UK education is so advanced that most students see it as the norm now and apathy is really high. We organised a demo against fees on our campus and only got 25 people, but theres never really been an activist scene in Hull uni.

The government make-up is similar to the UK (conservatives and Third Way-ers; neoliberals) here, and has been since Thatcher and Major/Blair and Lubbers/Kok (our prime ministers back then).

Nice to have you on board.
