Hey, trying to think of a good way to maybe make some people i know more receptive to socialism, i think music is a good way to get them asking questions.
Anyone know any revolutionary artist, and not someone like tupac who makes changes, then hit em up.
I have got

Lowkey
Doc Brown
Immortal Teachnique
Bob dylan(sort of)
Frantic frank
Lenon(sort of)

anyone know any, good revolutionary artists.

You definitely forgot Rage Against the Machine and Public Enemy.

Not to mention the bands that spun off from Rage; The Nightwatchman and One Day as a Lion.

Great suggestions so far. In addition:
Suicide Bid, a UK leftist dub/punk collective
Manic Street Preachers have done a few pretty good marxist songs
Asian Dub Foundation have done one or two socialist songs too
And of course old classics like The Clash, Billy Bragg etc

oh and some modern punk like Anti-Flag I guess. They got me started in politics, though their views are kinda liberal in areas.

Skinny Puppy
Aus-Rotten
Rotten Sound
Napalm Death
Thievery Corporation

Varying in their ideas, but all are leftist, really.

Surprisingly, my favorite revolution song is Street Fighting Man by The Rolling Stones; sounds like one of those perfect songs to embody the youthful spirit of a revolution.

Ten posts and nobody has suggested Bad Religion yet?

Oh yeah, and the Dropkick Murphys too.

Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Joan Baez, early Dylan. I like Saul Williams. There are a couple of artists with a similar track record to him: Immortal Technique and Sage Francis in particular. I guess I'm more of an old school kind of guy generally and don't keep up with most of the latest trends, though I go out on a lim every now and then.

The guys who did 'Dream of Unity'? Makes sense to me. And I doubt that early (ie. tolerable) BR are going to help convince anyone of anything.

I've been listening to a lot of Propaghandi lately. They're about as political as Rage, but their lyrics are much smarter. It's nice to hear interesting, fresh ideas inside lyrics, rather than just generic lefty propaganda sung to a tune.

I liked the album, The Gray Race, it wasn't early, but politically, I think it may have been their best album.

For instance, here are the lyrics to, "Punk Rock Song,":

Have you been to the desert?
Have you walked with the dead?
There's a hundred thousand children being killed for their bread
And the figures don't lie, they speak of human disease
But we do what we want and we think what we please

Have you lived the experience?
Have you witnessed the plague?
People making babies sometimes just to escape
In this land of competition the compassion is gone
Yet we ignore the needy and we keep pushing on
We keep pushing on

This is just a punk rock song
Written for the people who can see something's wrong
Like ants in a colony we do our share
But there's so many other fuckin' insects out there
And this is just a punk, rock, song!

Have you visited the graveyard?
Have you swam in the shit?
The party conventions and the real politic
The faces always different, the rhetoric the same
But we swallow it all, and we see nothing change
Nothing has changed...

This is just a punk rock song
Written for the people who can see something's wrong
Like workers in a factory we do our share
But there's so many other fuckin' robots out there
And this is just a punk, rock, song!

10 million dollars on a losing campaign
20 million starving and writhing in pain
Big strong people unwilling to give
Small in vision and perspective
One in five kids below the poverty line
One population runnin' out of time, running out of time!

This is just a punk rock song
Written for the people who can see something's wrong
Like ants in a colony we do our share
But there's so many other fuckin' insects out there
And this is just a punk, rock, song!

The figures don't lie, they speak of human disease
But we do what we want and we think what we please
One in five kids below the poverty line
One population runnin' out of time!

This is just a punk rock song,
This is just a punk rock song,
This is just a punk, rock, song!

Propagandhi is awesome, but sometimes their vocals are hard to understand

And if any of you are into metal, I'd recommend looking into Molotov Solution.

Hey you can't forget bands such as 'Heaven Shall Burn' or 'Outernational'.

I think music is very unlikely to get someone political. I know people who like the king blues, ratm and have no idea that they are even political.

Just heard this band for the first time yesterday. I'm into it. Everyone should check them out if they haven't already.

Arch enemy is not very revolutionary as a band, but several songs clearly spread a hardcore leftist message.

I know RATM and system of a down made me alot more serious about my stance as a leftist. And i think your missing punk. most punks become anarchists or socialists because of punk.
