Ask them what Communism is. Chances are, they'll give you some answer about "big government." Refute that for starters.

Well, your government told you to think that communism is corrupt, making you think they are telling you but your own government did exactly this to you. Have you ever thought about this for yourself, or even listened to any un-biased informations not by your media?
Btw, I can hear all those new year rockets behind me... goddamn consumerism

Well, I remember someone said to me "Communism is a horrible thing," and my response was pretty much "Yeah, equality, direct democracy, health-care, free education, and freedom are horrible things. You're very right..."
I also tied in how if anything, Jesus would be a communist, and many religions back up communism/socialism to a large extent.

The vast majority of the population in the first world are absolutely decieved about what communism trully stands for.
It's always good to set them straight by asking them "who really runs the country?" They might say something totally contrary to truth, like, "the people!" Show them that there really is an exploiting class that has everything on it's side, including the media and the economy.
Try to get it through their skulls how reality is. How representative democracy really isn't representative to the everyday person. It represents the causes of the rich, those who hold all the power and determine all of our fates!
The only true representative democracy would be communism.
*EDIT: O, and also...show them that capitalists tell us what to do all the time via indoctrinating education and especially in marketting. "BUY THIS NOW!!!" TV literally brainwashes us as consumers.

Yeah, the imperialists have done a good job in their propoganda campaign. "Communist" is often used as a dirty word - and Communism/Socialism is largely considered a failed political system.
Neither of those things are true, of course!;)
Marxist-Leninist theory is clear in that a Socialist society would embrace equality, dignity, true democracy, and freedom - everything that the current U.S. government promises, but fails to deliver.
