This is an actual thing people are trying to get on the ballot. The person who wrote the proposition said they were trying to expose the hypocrisy of the "defending traditional marriage" arguments made by the Catholic and Mormon churches that supported prop 8 in California.

If it's on the ballot and the churches don't back the prop to the same extent I guess it could be argued as proof that prop 8 was empirically about being anti-gay for the church, not about "defending marriage".

It's silly, but funny never the less.
