Whilst I am leary of getting symbols tattooed on me, I know I will be a leftist for life. So, I came up with this idea.
I had my daughter write out the word, and my son, a tattoo artist actually tattoo it on me.
Behold, revleft, my new revolution tattoo on my wrist.
Sorry if theres a thread already here somewhere like this one, I didnt see it on the first 2 pages. And sorry for its freshness, its a bit bloody too. :)

Oh I wasnt aware of the libertarian bit. Eww. :)
I was inspired by El Che's words, "let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by feelings of love."
And to Paul supporters I can always quote Che again with
"I am not a liberator. Liberators do not exist. The people liberate themselves."

tattoos, like any personal information, can be used to build a file. if they ever needed to associate you with your posts here, this would be a pretty good piece of evidence. it just gives them more personal information to work with if they ever need to.
I am already very selective about what I post. Its obvious and has been used against me many times. Its called "discernment."
this probably isn't true of everyone, though. why give them any more information than necessary? If someone posts something that can actually identify them, like their face, maybe? We will ask them to remove it, this isnt rocket science.
But thanks for the overwhelming concern. I got this. I. do.

Also I won't pass my tattoo but i will post the image i based it on, it is not yet register with LEO to my knowledge, because I am not real activist, which I willing to admit.

Except mine is just black and red. I got it and then it scabbed completely over and then i picked at it because I am crazy like that and then i was sleeping on the streets in APPO occupied Oaxaca and it got kinda dirty. So needless to say it needs a touch up.

Too lazy to look for a camera lead to upload a picture.
Red star with a black outline, yellow hammer and sickle in the middle with the words "He who has the youth has the future" circling it. The text didn't really work out, it's a bit too close together and good too with a bit of a touch up to freshen it.

I'm not exactly sure why people would get leftist tattoos. It's possible people's views could change as they get older. I don't know, just a thought. I personally wouldn't want to be a Conservative or a Fascist with a massive Hammer and Sickle tattooed on my back.

I am already older, so I really dont see things changing. And when I wasnt a leftist, earlier in life, its because I wasnt educated enough to know what I really was. :) But I have always been a rebel, an activist, and a revolutionary.

Tattoos, for me, represent my life like chapters of a book, I have a mandala (wheel of life tattoo) which was done in 1997, it has a cross, a star of david, and a pink triangle. I dont hate it because I once was a Christian and am not now, but it serves to represent where I was at the phase of my life. Its my history.
I have 2 half sleeves, various leg tattoos and one on my lower back. I got my first tattoo in 1991 so this isnt something new for me. And now that my son has agreed to tattoo me, he didnt for years, I plan on alot more work done. (I'm just thankful hes very good)

I got this a few months back on my wrist. It needs touched up. I am getting a sleeve pretty soon, but I am not sure what I want to do with that yet. I would like something that's not so typical-a theme that hasn't been done before for that. I got this because I'm obviously a revolutionary communist and because I'm a big fan of hip-hop as well. I stole the image from the album art on Immortal Technique's Revolutionary: Volume 1. Definitely one of my favorite albums and artists.

You can't really see it cos I got this pic taken just after I got it done, but the artist graded the red and black together for me so the colours look like they sort of blend in :tt2:

I've a map of Ireland done in the Tri-Color, over the top of which is written Sinn Fein on my shoulder and a solid black band around my right arm which is a band of mourning in remembrance of all who've given their lives to the cause. Thinking of getting Tiocfaidh ar la in Celtic uncial script across my shoulders, sort of at mid-shoulder blade level. The next bit I really want is an anarcho-syndicalist star. I'm thinking of getting it fucking huge, right on top of my trapezius so one point crawls onto my neck, two points down onto the outer part of my deltoid, and the other two onto my pectoral and scapula.

Most places won't do your hands/knucks unless you have quite a few other tattoos. And unless you have a hook up, the romper stomper sleeve would run you like five or six hundred, easy.

haha yeah, its pretty funny. The reason people won't do hands/knucks/face is because it can fuck your life up as far as jobs go. Responsible artists don't want to ruin an 18 year old kid's life by putting such a visible tattoo on them. While tattoos are generally becoming more acceptable in society, being covered or having tattoos somewhere that they're not covered by a tshirt (or at least long sleeve shirt) is still definitely looked down on. Having a tribal armband or a four leaf clover on your back is "cute" or "rebellious", having a sleeve makes you a gangbanger.
Also, don't get big and/or easily visible tattoos from an apprentice, you'll regret it haha.

I def wouldn't have an apprentice do my knucks, tattooing on kuckles/hands/necks is different from tattooing other spots, and it takes experience.
Also, think long and hard before you get ACAB on your knuckles, do you want to explain that during a job interview or in court? I'm not saying not to do it if you want, but just that it does have an effect on your life.
Also, tattooing your hands/knuckles/face/neck without lots of other tattoos makes you look like a poser and is just generally frowned upon in the tattoo community.

Yeah, i'm gonna get a couple tattoo's first. But I don't expect to go to court for anything minor where they'll be asking questions like that. And if I have a job interview I can always buy cover-up. I think the first one I get done is gonna be a small lettered tattoo to start. Then im either gonna get that romper stomper sleeve or my shoulders.

the 3 pointed red star was the symbol of the international brigades in spain during the civilwar.

I don't understand why people get tattoos. Even if I did, political tattoos are the worst idea of all. I don't want to get a hammer and sickle tattooed on myself then turn into a REPUBLICAN. Although I can't really see myself doing that, it could happen. Point is, politics change. Ronald Reagan used to be a liberal, you know. Also, I don't want to have to explain why it's there 24/7.
This one applies to all tattoos in general. The more epic the tattoo is, the more I wish people didn't put it on themselves. After all, it takes up a huge amount of room on your body to do it well, unless it's just a small symbol or something. Then it's just gross.

I have quite a few political tattoos, some are pretty big. Even if I did change my mind those tattoos still represent a very important and formative part of my life. I have a huge american flag mounted on a rifle tattooed on my arm, I am not a patriot (obviously) but it represents my time in the army, which, for better or for worse, has contributed to who I am.

i mean, the scouts where started by baden-powel an fascist/mussolini sympathiser (early scouting badges featured the swastika), now they use the fleur-de-lis (a royalist symbol) and the amercian boy scouts still officialy ban agnostics, atheists and homosexuals from being an member.

actually, the BSA is NOT a paramilitary organization.
i could care less about baden powell's political views, i'm an eagle scout and it's a great organization.
and no, we don't ban agnostics, athiests, OR homosexuals from being members. i dont know where you heard this but it's wrong. many councils are known not to give these people rankk badges, but it's certainly not anything official and you CAN be a member and one of these. (i have an athiest friend who is life rank). anyways, i'm getting the crest tattoed on me, it's part of who i am. even after being in scouts as a youth member i plan to continue through with the programme and my goal is to be the national exec.

and no, we don't ban agnostics, athiests, OR homosexuals from being members.
Position on atheists and agnostics
The Boy Scouts of America's position is that atheists (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atheism) and agnostics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agnosticism) cannot participate as Scouts (youth members) or Scouters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scout_Leader) (adult leaders) in its traditional Scouting programs. According to the Bylaws of the BSA, Declaration of Religious Principle:
"The Boy Scouts of America maintains that no member can grow into the best kind of citizen without recognizing an obligation to God. In the first part of the Scout Oath or Promise the member declares, ‘On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law.’ The recognition of God as the ruling and leading power in the universe and the grateful acknowledgment of His favors and blessings are necessary to the best type of citizenship and are wholesome precepts in the education of the growing members."[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-duty-5)
During the membership application process and as a requirement to obtain membership, youths and adults are required to subscribe to the precepts of the Declaration of Religious Principle and to agree to abide by the Scout Oath and Law, which include the words, "do my duty to God" and "reverent". Youths are also required to repeat the Scout Oath and Law periodically after being accepted as Scouts. The BSA believes that atheists and agnostics are not appropriate role models of the Scout Oath and Law for boys, and thus will not accept such adults as leaders.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-duty-5)
Position on homosexuals
Since 1991, openly gay individuals have been officially prohibited from leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America.[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-curran-16) A 1991 Position Statement states: “We believe that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the requirement in the Scout Oath that a Scout be morally straight and in the Scout Law that a Scout be clean in word and deed, and that homosexuals do not provide a desirable role model for Scouts.”[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-dale-7) The BSA thus "believes that a known or avowed homosexual is not an appropriate role model of the Scout Oath and Law."[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-morally-17)
The language used to describe the BSA's policies on homosexuals has evolved over time. In a 1993 position statement, BSA said:
"We do not allow for the registration of avowed homosexuals as members or as leaders of the BSA."[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-18) In 2004, the BSA adopted a new policy statement, including the following as a "Youth Leadership" policy:
"Boy Scouts of America believes that homosexual conduct is inconsistent with the obligations in the Scout Oath and Scout Law to be morally straight and clean in thought, word, and deed. The conduct of youth members must be in compliance with the Scout Oath and Law, and membership in Boy Scouts of America is contingent upon the willingness to accept Scouting’s values and beliefs. Most boys join Scouting when they are 10 or 11 years old. As they continue in the program, all Scouts are expected to take leadership positions. In the unlikely event that an older boy were to hold himself out as homosexual, he would not be able to continue in a youth leadership position."[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-morally-17) The BSA stated in a 2000 press release that, "Boy Scouting makes no effort to discover the sexual orientation of any person."[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-19) BSA application forms for youth membership and adult leadership positions do not inquire about the applicants' sexual orientation and do not mention the BSA's policies regarding homosexuals.[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-20) In 2005, a high-level employee of BSA was fired by the National Council (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America#National_Council) after the organization received a copy of his bill from a gay resort (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gay_tourism) at which he had vacationed.[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-21) In 2009, the mother and civil union partner of a Vermont Scout were prohibited from volunteering for his pack when it was learned they were gay.[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boy_Scouts_of_America_membership_controversies#cit e_note-22)

okay, none of this is enforced. once again, my best friend is athiest and life rank. and i DO HAPPEN to know of a few homosexuals that take part in the programme as well. point is, it's a big part of my life and has helped shape who i am and THAT'S why i'm getting the tattoo. not because i support misguided policy. and it's not the american emblem, it's the WORLD BROTHERHOOD of scouting emblem, a much differently run organization.

Would this be like your idea of a guerilla war in the United States, as shown in another thread?
If I get a tattoo, it would be something similar to Sir Comradical's avatar:

Thanks. It's actually my right shoulder (the mirror reversed it). I already have another large tattoo/sleeve (a dragon) on my left shoulder, so had to go with the right. I'm thinking about getting a few more symbols to go with the star, but not quite sure what yet.

you could go moderne, with a jackhammer and a cog, or maybe the classic hammer and sickle would be good. also, pavlov'shouseparty's avatar is comical, yet has deep political undertones (the ice cream cone and sickle [everybody gets icecream]) but it's not my body...

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking about the hammer and sickle for a while, but I wanted something a little more subtle - the cog might be a good idea. I was also thinking about a rising sun of some sort, incorporating the star.

I'm not sure. I thought it looked pretty nice as it is, but the main reason is I am scared it would look bad (blurry?) in my later years. Out of all people to tell me, my boss (who didn't question what it symbolized) said there are some good artists who can do a certain styling so it won't appear like a black blob in my older years.
For now, I'm leaving it as it is.

Love the idea of a revolutionary leftist tattoo! I had never thought of it before. I am inclined to get a small one, only black, not a star, maybe a quote in another language. Probably not ill I am a bit older tho.
Love the dinosaurs tattoo~!
And I also totally agree that if we change our views, our future selves desserve a communist sign literally embedded into their body forever ha XD
People who have said not to get them I think are at least a little influenced by the almost subconcious aversion to tattoos they were probbably brought up with (like me).

Terrible idea, unless you actually speak the language.
1) Makes you look pretentious.
2) You'll look dumb for having a language on you that you are not fluent in.
3) You can also have humiliating and embarrassing results if you don't do your research on the language. Ask half the people with Asiatic writing on their bodies saying "Pig"

If I were to get a tat (i'm still kind of young now) I'd probably get a red/red and black star on the left of my chest. Given that I lose some weight because right now it would be on one of my moobs xD But I don't really like the whole "distinguishing feature" element of tats. If i ever get on the wrong side of the law and have to go into hiding it may become somewhat of a problem.

I have a red inverted triangle tattooed on my arm. I'm sure you already know this, but in the 40s the nazis would mark political prisoners like communists and leftists with an inverted red triangle.
I want to make it a positive symbol, kind of like how the gay community made the pink triangle a positive symbol even though its origins were very dark.

Yes, the pink triangle was what they forced cisgendered gay men to wear. "Other sexual deviants" (lesbians, trans people and all sorts of gender variants) had a black triangle. Part of me wants to get the black triangle, the other part of me is saying "wait until you know for sure where on your body you want it."

Urg, calf Idk. I find that an extremely lame place to get a tattoo. I thought of chest, but I want to wait with tattooing that for a while since I recently started getting some muscle mass there.
Shoulder would do I guess, though it seems that everyone has their first tattoo on their shoulders hm... Idk about the arm, where exactly on the arm would I place it?

Oh man, i had the same idea for a while. Would suck if we both got a sleeve like that. :/
I like the one with the bosses and the worker staking over the factory. Was going to be the main theme of it :(

That tattoo is really awesome. I may have to copy that location, although I should probably wait because presumably if I had another kid it would stretch way out of shape when my boobs got big.

All 3 of you should get together and design your tattoos so you can hold 'em together and make one big piece.:D

Ya'll best be trollin' kiddos, I had like exactly the same idea....
Arntz's art is just so right for tattoo work.
It would be pretty awkward if the entire Dutch revolutionary left would get the same style tattoos
On the other hand, I'm offering a sixpack of beer to the first person to tattoo RAAN!RAAN!RAAN!RAAN!RAAN!RAAN!RAAN! on his/her arms!

haha, just design it yourself to prevent any duplicates  i mean its like you''re trying to enforce intellectual property right ? (besides you already copied my three-pointed star *trollface*)
also note that everyone with this idea is dutch, lingering chauvinism anyone :p?
would be awesome though if our tattoo's formed a panorama when combined, or a timeline

A circle-A usually doesn't make a really nice tattoo, try making it more interesting?

If you're ever in the Netherlands, you'll be the first to get a sixpack mate!

The only leftist tattoo that I've ever considered getting is the red-and-black star. Not very interesting, I know, but on the other hand it's a simple design that's made up of straight lines and two colors...a lot of the really intricate tattoos that I've seen on old people look like crap.
