Bitter Ashes

Maybe I've got this completly wrong, but it's my understanding that the riots in Greece started as a result of the police murdering a young man in Athens and that the original demonstrations were a direct result.
They've kicked off again a year later, because the police still havent learned and decieded to start oppressing demonstrators again who held a memorial.
Now that the red and black flag's been raised over Athens university I'm wondering what's going on really. Although there is a lot of anarchists there I'm sure, I doubt that they think that revolution will come from the riots, or that the riots will further the gain of the working class unless there's some kind of victory in sight. For there to be a victory, there has to be an objective. I'm wondering what exactly the objectives of the action is? The mainstream media's very unhelpful with this and after reading a few thousand words on Indymedia and Libcom, I'm beginging to get to witt's end.
Or do I have this totaly wrong and it's all just to get even with the state and make them suffer for thier oppression?
