I just caught up with this--the movie's been out there a couple of months. I don't have cable so I'm not very up to date.

An interesting interview between Sean Hannity and Michael Moore--it really explains quite graphically the two different "Americas" that are out there. One Capitalist one listing Socialistic. It really made me look at Moore's Capitalism movie in a whole new light. Up until this interview I thought that Moore's Socialism was the devient strain in America politics (not that it is a bad one.) But this interview made me realize that it's really Hannity's hard line Capitalism that's at odds with American culture.

It's interesting to note Moore's reason for being a Socialist.

Nothing here is hard line Communism so it might not be up to most tastes--but as I said--I found it really interesting how the different "Americas" picture themselves.

And Moore's reason for his dislike of Capitalism--or at least the one represented by the "American Dream" is right on target.

Wait - Michael Moore is a socialist now?

Close to being one, comrade. In standard American politics, yes, he is a socialist.

Michael Moore is a social-democrat.

I love how he says "I'm a christian" then Hannity says "I am a christian" then he says "Yeah but I believe in what Jesus said."

The difference is between Hannity and Moore is Hannitys ideology is pushed on people, in other words his is about protecting big buisiness and he tries to sell it to the public.

Michael Moores ideology is about his personal morality, and its essencially a public one, most people have that morality, Hannities ideology has to be sold, Michael Moores just reinforced.

The United States population is much more left than the media tries to portray.

One thing that does irritate my is Michael Moores sarcastic dismissive attitude, it does'nt help.

Hannity is rediculous though, "just give YOUR money," what kind of rediculous crap is that.

Also Hannities "reason" for the collapse is so insane its laughable. No it was'nt bets in excess of the entire world GDP, it was'nt that, it was'nt giant CEO bonuses that were given regardless of the state of the company, and so on and so on. The top 1% control 95%, so to blaim the 95% of the population that controls 5% of the economy, on the collapse of the economy is insane.

In the United States there still exists the type of 'free-market' individualism that says you should try and own as much as possible and to get as many workers (slaves) as possible as well. You should try and consolidate land, and focus on getting richer and richer and richer. While this isn't as extreme and ridiculous as most far-right free-market theory is nowadays, it approximate that ideology rather than socialism.

But I do think we all have values that are contradictory to the free-market as well, and ironically these are what help society succeed: cooperation, democracy, getting together to work out problems, and so on. Corporations and their lackeys try and beat back this ideology, to the point where even our schools, books, etc., are completely commercialized.
