I am looking for a good Youth Socialist organization or a political party with a youth division.

But I am looking for an active one that participates in activism and protests for workers struggles.

I have applied and been accepted into the Young Communist League USA, but I would like to here from others if this is a good group.

I am in the Bay Area California. What is a good youth group?

Thank you in advance!

There's always the Democratic Socialists of America, they have a chapter in your area apparently.

Your parents would let you go into protests?

Your parents would let you go into protests? My parents don't even know my political beliefs, and are both extremely right winged. :(

Although I did get to join a protest once because I said I was going to go to the mall to see my friends.

Although I live in England, the two North American groups which seem most interesting to me are 'Solidarity' - ww.solidarity-us.org
and Socialist Party USA - ww.sp-usa.org

I would also strongly ask you to reconsider joining YCL USA. CP USA is one of the old 'official' communist parties, they are soft-stalinists and much further to the right than the socialist party.

NB

I was around 'the left' for 3 years before I joined a group, the best advice I could give would be to talk to everyone and noyt rush into any group.

Go along to broad events, like anti-War things or anti-fascist stuff, and get chatting with the people. If your average demo is anything like the UK, there will be people from tons of organisations ready to discuss politics, obviously whoever is most appealing is who you should hook up with.

How about an International one...

The World Federation of Democratic Youth?

I think there is a fundamental problem in how the question is posed. Cowslayer, why are you looking to join a youth socialist group?

I second Pogue's suggestion. Read around, figure out who you are politically, where you stand on various issues, plus figure out who's doing the best work in practical terms, then join them. Just cos your in one group shouldn't mean you stop working with people from other political traditions either.

The best youth group in the U.S. is the ISO. ;)

The YCL is the youth wing of the Communist Party, which manages to combine the worst aspects of Stalinism and liberalism in one organization.

Most socialist organizations don't have separate youth groups anymore, but integrated youth sections.

Hey comrade,

I'm in the Bay Area as well. Honestly, I would recommend going rogue for a while before joining any party or organization. The YCL, from what I've heard, is like a group of young Obama cheerleaders that call themselves communists and I can say that in my time as an activist I've never seen them at any events in the area. If anything, there are some smaller collectives in the area that I think are much better than the parties. There's one called Advance the Struggle (http://advancethestruggle.wordpress.com) that has some really good comrades in it that are extremely committed and active. I don't agree with all their politics but they handle differences and contradictions very well.

I was involved for a while with the Socialist Workers Party when I first got active but they are very small and very old, and have kind of turned into a Cuba solidarity group more than anything. I was also involved with the Revolution Club of the RCP for a couple years. They are definitely very active but are extremely centralized around their party chairman and are really, really sectarian.

Right now, I'm just doing my own thing mostly but I'm also involved with some younger revolutionary-minded cats that have come together around the Commemoration Committee for the Black Panther Party. Hopefully we'll start developing something bigger out of that.

Anyway comrade feel free to shoot me a PM and hopefully I can be of assistance!

The user is asking for socialist organisations in America, not Democrat pressure groups.

Comrade, Markyb was just responding to the OP's post where he mentioned possibly joining the YCL. If you reread it, Markyb says "reconsider" as in "don't do it". :)

I think this is a very good reason why I shouldn't post while stoned. Apologies!

The YCL is affiliated with the CPUSA, so like has been said, it's a bunch of Obama fans.
I've worked with several great young comrades from FIST (http://fistyouth.wordpress.com/), they are affiliated with my party. Check them out.
