Can somebody give me link of good reggae (vinyl!) record store in London. Since I'm going there, I would like to get my hands on some Toots & The Maytals or The Ethiopians records... I can't get any of these in Croatia...

Here's one song to chill out :)

reason why I want vinyl is because music is 100% better from the record than from the CD. CD quality is same as mp3 quality... but when you put vinyl on gramophone and press play.... you'll fell the difference :)

Toots rocks :)
Pressure Drop all night long :)

Go down to Camden Market, in one of the narrow alleys that leads to the new Horse Stable Market there is an old dude who had lots of stuff. Also in Camden Market, near the area with the cool wooden games, the N.American indian shop and the Caribbean and ethnic food stands there was a specialist music shop with loads of old vinyl. There is a rastafarian shop in the inner part too on the corner but the guys specialises in objets d'art and Ethiopian products more than music.

I love Camden.....:)

In Soho around D'Arbly Street there are quite a few record shops. There used to be Uptown Records but i think its moved but it might near somewhere in Soho, IIRC they had a Reggae section

Thx guys :)

Btw. question abut Soho... isn't it kind of like Red Light District in Amsterdam? I don't know if I wish to go there if it is

No don't go Camden market, it's overpriced and too busy, although I guess travel-wise, it will be easier for you to get there. I think there might be a few record shops around New Cross Gate and Peckham, and being an area which is quite populated by an Afro-Caribbean community, many of whom came to London back in the 60s/70s and reggae and ska are still strong in these parts ;)

Not if you haggle!:) I know what you mean though- the Camden of 2009 and is not the Camden it used to be.

Of course you could rock down to Electric Avenue and take a walk around Brixton.

Bah, haggling with the owners there is tough, I can usually only knock off about £5-10 at most, and that's because they know that so many people pass through Camden that they can afford to leave it at those prices and not lower em. Haha, Brixton might work too, although I barely ever went there when I was living in Peckham so didn't know the area too well. :thumbup1:

It's not myth. I have The Skatalites - Play SKA LP I also have all songs from it in mp3. Every time I play LP sound is 10000x better, sound is worm and music is stronger..... Vinyl ftw!

then the mp3s are crappy
furthermore, mp3s are necessarily compressed
CDs are not
also, most vinyl records pressed today are digitally mastered, meaning the sound is the exact same as that of a CD
depending on how the recording is engineered, vinyl can reproduce a greater range of pitches than digital
but the difference is minimal imho

i find the physical act of putting on a record, laying the needle on, flipping it and all that a lot more rewarding than just plopping in a cd

its like the difference between foreplay and no foreplay, it improves the quallity of the experience

well said. looking at the album art on records is also better.
