Some good news for the Cuban 5 (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/09/us/09brfs-COURTREDUCES_BRF.html?ref=world)
Not quite the end for the injustice they face, but it is a step

Kind of disturbing to recall that they're still there. At least the life-sentence of one of them got reduced. You're right in that it's not justice but it brings attention to the situation and makes their suffering less so.

Funny how you don't hear this in the Capitalist media.

I'm sure all those expats in Miami would be described as 'raising awareness of Fidel's dictatorship', if they were involved in similar activities.

It's better than the other way around, but pretty freaking lousy.

Any sense of the politics behind it?

The Americans have clearly abandoned Fidel's generation of Comrades and are hoping, probably in vein, that the younger generation will be some sort of Gorbachevite reformist bunch.

Either that or they hope to start a new wave of intrigue against the next wave of Socialist leaders in Cuba, as it does seem that Fidel, Raul et al are pretty solid defenders of the Revolution.
