Its kind of crazy to think that five years have passed since Nathan Gale charged the stage, gunned down four people and killed Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott during a Columbus, Ohio, performance of Dime's new band, Damageplan.

It was an event that shook rock & roll to its core and it robbed the world of a guitar great. Dimebag is still considered one of the greatest guitarists of his era and genre, and a whole new generation of heavy metal bands and fans name Dime among their main influences.

To quote Ozzy upon hearing of Dimebag's death:

"Dimebag was a dear friend of mine. I'm absolutely beside myself with grief. I can't for the life of me understand why someone would do this. Pantera toured with me many, many times. I'll always remember the signed guitar that he gave me at my 50th birthday party. My heart goes out to Dime's family, his fans and the other innocent victims who were killed in this senseless tragedy. It's just terribly, terribly sad."

The man I knew was always kind to other people, very down to Earth. He was a wild man with a heart. Dime loved life, cared about people and was a true rock star. He had a way of making everyone feel like he was their friend. You can feel his soul in his music. And it is a good soul. I love and miss you Dime. RIP
