Pete
4th December 2002, 20:12
ontario is evil. its smelly. and full of stupid people. and their are two capitals in ontario. toronto the smelliest town in canada and ottawa, which is cool but still smelly. we have those mines that are smelly, and i really liked the rocky foothills. they dont smell. so ontario is smelly, not necasarrily evil

Nova Scotia generally smells nice, except Halifax Harbour, stinky :)

Not really, the population is large enough to constitute a city. It's just that my town is small in area size, but densely populated. If you want to talk about kicks, travel a couple of villages over, now there's some kicks!
This is the waterfall/pond thingy where some of us once found a skinned pigish-type rodent thingy. ATLEAST WE'VE GOT SCENERY!!!!!! AND NOT SMOKESTAKS EVERYWHERE!!!!! :P

I throw my hat in the ring as a canadian commie.
ugh. nova scotia has scenery? bah it's all flat with trees. Here in NF is where the scenery is. Allow me to translate for you Nova Scotians: Newfinland is where the good scenery is at. Halifax is the only good thing about Nova Scotia, despite its horrible pollution.
Come over to NF sometime and we'll start the Communist Party of Newfoundland and Labrador. It'll be great.
Felicia
10th December 2002, 19:39
HAHAHA, spoken like a true newfie!!! Nova Scotia is flat? Since when? I don't know where abouts that you live, but I live in the Annapolis Valley-----HENCE THE "VALLEY" as in "area between two mountains"
ugh. nova scotia has scenery? bah it's all flat with trees
Is there something wrong with trees? The last I heard, they provide you with the oxygen that you breath!!! You've probably only been to Halifax, on the other side of the valley, so of course it's flatter.
And don't get me started on Newfoundland!!!! MY GOD!!! All that mercury turning up on your fish can't be doing your body good. All of the fish you've been eating for generations has slowly been poisioning you and causing brain damage. Yup, that explains it all doesn't it? Everything from your odd behaviour down to you dumbing IQ'S. Hey, it may not be "high" exposure, but it's exposure. Are you sure that you want to know what the rest of the country thinks of nfld? You shouldn't have started the attacks!!!
"Mercury is a very dangerous bioacumulative toxin that is easily absorbed through skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal tissues. Mercury attacks the central nervous system and adversely affects the mouth, gums, and teeth. High exposure over long periods of time will result in brain damage and ultimately death. Yeah!!!
Campbell's police mugshot, from his DUI in Hawaii, is all over BC newspapers.
A GREAT DAY!!! Many are calling for his resignation, and most are calling him an idiot.
Here's the big picture:
You have a man, Gordon Campbell, who lied to get into office, has used that office to cut social programs, health programs, programs for the handicapped, the poor, the sick, the eldery (all the while giving fat tax breaks to the largest corporations in Vancouver, as well as BC's foresty assholes)...
...and while many, many, many in BC are suffering due to his cuts, he goes to Hawaii, gets drunk and goes driving.
He's an irresponsible bastard in every conceivable way.
It would take pages to list his systematic attack on the social fabric of BC.
The worst thing is the SMILE on his face in his mugshots. He's the Premier of BC and he's just been arrested for drunk driving and he's smiling! It even looks like laughing! He's smiling because he doesn't care, he knows he was never getting re-elected again anyway.
But I'm glad he spent some time in jail. In my opinion, he deserves a lot more.
And it's NO coincidence that the BC "Liberals" party colors are RED, WHITE, and BLUE. Selling BC out to any American company with enough money.
May MORE very nasty things happen to Campbell.
Which would happen if only he would stop by my house for a couple minutes.

Fires of History
14th January 2003, 02:03
TheFriendlyBolshevik,
I'm not aware of him hitting anyone, but then again nothing would surprise me about Campbell.
He 'apologized' today, but refused to acknowledge that he committed a crime. Yes, Campbell, a DUI is a crime, say it with me. You committed a crime.
And he's painting this as a 'personal issue.' Nope.
Yes, drinking is a personal issue, but the second you get behind the wheel it becomes a public issue. This is almost as funny as the head of the Vancouver D.A.R.E. program that died of a heroin overdose.
xe11
14th January 2003, 18:26
His lies on this issue are already being exposed.
His "short" trip home was more of a half an hour drive.
He said he didnt know what the breathalizer results were, but police in hawaii said they would of been displayed right infront of where he was blowing and it would of been hard for him not to know.
Though the results are supposed to be released sometime today. What bothers me is that he wasnt even just a bit tipsy and caught at a road block, he was drunk enough that he was speeding and swearving on the road so that a cop noticed him.
I love those mug shots.
Fires of History
14th January 2003, 22:48
Xe11,
He's knows all that info, but everything he has said in the press has definitely been very carefully scripted, probably by a whole team of lawyers.
And, yeah Xe11 good point, it wasn't a road block. It was YOU'RE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE YOU SWERVING RECKLESS BASTARD!
His actions to cover this up and downplay it are more the issue to me than the DUI. If he had just let the truth all come out, I wouldn't be half as pissed, nor would many others here in BC.
I love how he said that he's going to "fully cooperate." What are you talking about, of course you are! It's a DUI! You have no choice! Cooperating with the authorities over a DUI isn't an option you nitwit!
TheFriendlyBolshevik
15th January 2003, 17:39

Although I do understand the sentiment. COMPLETELY.
Also, Campbell is just a symbol of the Americanization of Canada. He's an American wannabe, he thinks Americans have it right. He loves his private meetings with American CEO's, I bet it makes him feel like a bad ass...selling off BC to his rich American business bastard friends. I'm glad BC hates him, well most of BC that is. Good sign, many can see the ruin pretending to be Americans will bring.

This is Evil Evil Evil Québec here  (actually I live very close to Ottawa but anyways....still is Québec)
Well, in my province, it has started...A great great menace...In the naive but not so innocent man called Mario Dumont. That asshole calls his "clan" "Action Democratique du Québec"... He's a predator to all healthcare system, actually to all social politics. I trully hate him, for good reasons. The guy wants the independance too, so, there's a reason more.
Anyways, now we're stuck with that weirdo, that Landry... Doesn't do anything, really. I thought Québec's parliament was dead since media have been so quiet about it...
For the U.S. well...... We yell that we're americanized, that our culture is in great danger (true!!!!). Here in Québec, we say "mawww...They wont get us, we speak french, we have a culture of our own! we're different". Actually, it's a great excuse to close our eyes over the fact that we're as much americanized than "English Canada."
The FACT is that we are too much economicaly dependant from U.S. We've got to change this (if we only can) and make sure that our federal position regain the strongness it had when Trudeau was there.
That's my opinion...
o!!!! By the way, do you recall last summer 26-27 june, the Take the Capital manifestation for Kananaskis ? WOULD IT BE WONDERFULL TO MAKE SOMETHING SIMILAR FOR THE 5TH OF MAY !? (Bush is in Ottawa that day)...
Anyways, if you have any infos on that, please tell me! :)

It may sound...hmm...comment dire...coward but I think it's for the best ( actually, cause it may change). We have a great multicultural and "multiethnical" province and our relation with the federal are not that bad.
Maybe I'm beeing naive and that I've lost my national spirit but I think we aren't really loosing our language nor our identity or culture. I think we are standing strong and that we can work with the rest of Canada...
I consider Quebec my nation (well..the french meaning of nation...Quebec for my cultural and "ethnical" identity) and Canada for my country.
I believe we can stand strong and united in Canada as long as the federal government respect our differences and doesn't repress us...
Maybe the "fighting spirit" as you call it transformed itself over the years... After the October crisis our nationalism has soften but I think it's still present, blooming gently in our spirit and hearts.
I only hope that we won't get, over the generation, blown of of the map... I hope that my children, and my children's children (and so on) will be able to speak in French in their province and that the culture, history and rich heritage will be passed on...
Pero, que esta muy triste y indignante es que la cultura de los Estados Unidos esta por todas partes del globe..

See if you can make it to the Peace Camp outside the US consulate.
I know it's alot to ask.
I live in North Van and I've only made it to one of the demonstrations since the attack on Iraq.
Too many obligations.

Hm....
Vive le FLQ ? I think that it was too brutal, too violent, as the repressions that we had to endure after those incidents from Federal government under Trudeau with the "mesures de guerre" (sorry I don't know this expression in English!). FLQ used violence and were extremist for the most part; I don't support those kind of movements, even if it helped many nation in their quest for independance...
From my point of view I wouldn't say that ADQ is the new of fighting for Quebeckers. Come on, ADQ with Dumont won't do anything with us..He's gonna privatise helath and education... Provincial politics are very ...strange this year... we have the PLQ (federalists) PQ (souverainist and a biiit socialist who wont pass their referendum for independance ...phiiieww..) and ADQ (almost from Right...brrr and for soverainty). And slowly the UFP (Union des Forces progressistes..they're from left side and for soverainty) is beggining to grow.
The problem is, many people will vote for PLQ because they're the only party who wont pass on the referendum... Anyways...
Peace :)

""mesures de guerre""
War Measures Act...very drachonian...
If Quebec leaves, I doubt the Cree will go with them. Or Montreal at that.

I do think that Montreal will go with the rest. But passing a referendum on a question of complete independency that would be accepted by the Quebeckers doesn't assure that the Federal will let Quebec go...
I don't think that a referendum would pass, but I do believe that a majority of Montrealers are for soverainty, except maybe people from Outremont and Westmount ;)
And thanks for "war measures" sometimes I do forget expressions and words :)

Well yesterday in Ontario the government presented an illegal budget from a car manufacturing plant. Yahoo for the conservatives trying to buy an election. They also have suspened Legistlature until atleast April, so it is a 3 person oligarchy ruling Ontario, and none of those three hold a seat. We are going to hell.

Does anyone have much on Martin's future policy. So far he's looking suspiciously similar to Malrouny.
Pete
3rd April 2003, 03:39
He is what is called a blue grit. A financial conservative pretending to be a liberal. That is why Chretien had him in Finance, he is a genius at it, except he would prefer to see big business tax breaks and cut funding like the Harris/Eves regime that has been in Ontario since 1995.
I don't understand why he isn't with the PC's other than he must lust for power, and see the Liberals as the only real way to gain power (Since WWII we have had maybe 12 years of Conservatives.). An oppurtunist would be the best thing to call him. I am sure he would jump into Bush's bed without a second thought.

Know anything about his aboriginal, small business, or education policies.
Pete
4th April 2003, 15:04
His site (http://www.paulmartin.ca) is site up like shit. I could not find any information for the questions you asked.
Education is provincal, so he has no control there, and I am sure that he would support the downgrading of native rights to the provinces, as they have done with treaty negotiations. Small businesses, he would be for since he is a blue grit.
Eastside Revolt
4th April 2003, 23:27
No, blue grits are for "Big Business" not small business.
Pete
5th April 2003, 04:40
They are for private businesses. If the small businesses are part of the franchise all the better.

The reason I said that you should take some economics. Becaude it'll help you realize that 'blue grits' will undoubtedly favour big bisuness besause small business is never as profitable.

Just look for any books that cover the works of:
Adam Smith, Karl Marx, Henry George, Jeremy Bentham, John Maynard Keynes, Thomas Malthus, and John Stuart Mill.

Look carefully at Marx's tendencies for a market economy, and Smith's theory's about collusion.

Are the elders in your parts in any way leftist or are they mostly as apathetic and inherently conservative as the elders in my area?

He is even more scary than Mike Harris-turned-Ernie Eves!!! But if Harris runs for the Federal Canadian Alliance leadership I will take drastic measures against him ever becoming PM!!

Sorry for joining this thread so late... I'm Canadian too. I live in Ontario, more specifically Mississauga... I'm not a communist, but I'm not a capitalist. I lean more towards socialism. I'm hoping to gain more exposure to the various schools of thought (Marxism/etc). I think this site is great for leftists.
So can anyone tell me what I should read to get up to speed in terms of political theory??
Thanks

jeepers creepers, why can't just one be from nova scotia? (no punn intended, lol)
You may want to check out the literature thread, there's lots of recommended reading :cheesy:
lol; Statistically speaking, with a population < 1 million, it's tough to find ONE from Nova Scotia on this site. I feel your pain Felicia! Looking on the bright side though, ONE might drive up to Nova Scotia - I might be driving up there next month (for the heck of it - I've never been there before).... Do you recommend it?
Felicia
15th July 2003, 12:19
Hmmm, dunno if I recommend it. Nova Scotia's a nice province, I don't really know where the particularly nice parts are (I think they've been lying to us). But if you get out and see some rural areas, it's nice. I wouldn't just come for the hell of it, otherwise you might get pretty bored driving around, lol
Well, I heard NS is nice, I would also be visiting other places along the way and checking out other nearby provinces. I'm not coming up for sure, but I'm considering it! I guess I'm looking for a bit of adventure! :-P
Felicia
17th July 2003, 23:00
lol.
Yeah, it is nice. You'd have to see some of our historic sites like Lunenburg, even parts of Old Halifax are beautiful. Oh, and Annapolis Royal (I was just there, I got back today) it's a pretty town, a must see, plus some great shopping (by that I mean little quaint shops and boutiques). :cheesy:
All of Nova Scotia is like one big back-country from the other provinces, lol
