what i found really interesting was reading about how che's face became a huge icon. in the actual photo, the wind is blowing and he looks pensive and contemplative and sort of like he's not really there. he also had that very sensual look about him. then when he was stylized, his thoughtful expression morphed into a look of courage and defiance and he was stripped of all sexuality too. nonetheless, it's a remarkable icon and i think it has alot to do with how people think of him today (those who actually do). he's regarded by people who haven't read about him much as pretty much just a warrior and through the iconic face, it's very hard to tell what sort of compassionate things he might have done since he just looks so rebellious, such as working alongside his men harvesting sugar cane, etc.
on another topic, what had me outraged was reading about how bolivia wanted to chop his head off, inject it with fermaldahyde(sp?) and send it back to cuba. that's the ultimate indication of governmental barbarism. that's a very roman thing to do, a terrible tool of intimidation. at least they "settled" for his hands. thank goodness he wasn't cremated...
