Would someone like to explain kissing at the end of a message, what kind of shit is this when people you have never hugged let alone kiss send you a barrage of online kissing quite why differnt rules apply to the internet then real life is beyond me.
I mean do I send them back in proportionate numbers will offense be taken if I only send one back because I am a kind of restrained and dignified kind of chap or do I return the full multipl kissing barrage despite the fact it will leave me feeling like an outright creep. Dear revleft as the most socially mental place on the internet I have come to ask WWUTD? (what would you twats do)?

Thats what I normally do. I'm just seeing what people who are only slightly off the hinges would do.

Sligthly off the hinges?
If someone did that to me I'd in portuguese (which gets really gross) that their breath smells so bad it makes me puke. (it's puke right?)

according to most sources, "x" means hugs, representing the arms, and "o" means kisses, for the circular shape of the lips

well your foreign so it might be different in your tribal wasteland here it means kisses due to the X looking remotely like two people kissing and the O looking like people hugging if your slow. ,

Actually x's are supposed to be kisses because in the Middle Ages, when an illiterate (almost everyone) had to sign something, they would draw an X, and then kiss the X to show that they meant what they were doing.

actually "X" means hugs because it refers to the greek letter chi, or X, which we all know is an abbreviation of "Christ"
And Christ hugs people
so when you read or write those flirty little Xs, you're loving Jesus

Umm, X means hugs or kisses because linguistic terms don't have meaning independent of our social agreements. You guys gonna argue if a rock is a chair next?
Also, I don't like that. I don't get action. If you start with some internet foreplay, I'm gonna be like. You tease! I'll get really excited when I get sent this ----> O:
I am sleepy. Do not take anything I say to be a reflection of some sort of conspiracy I have involved destroying the world with flying hippos. Sleep time.

Orite, is it pronounced "hahaha"?

I'm not sure. Someone from Spain once said to me that Spanish doesn't really have the "h" like in English, so that's why they spell out laughter in that way, but I don't know if that's true. The "j" in Spanish is usually the voiceless uvular fricative (the hard "ch" that the English can't pronounce :p). So maybe phonologically it would sound something like:
/χaχaχa/
But I doubt it. :p It would be funny though.

If its someone you fancy and they are flirting etc then you send them 2.
If its someone you like but dont know if its recipricated then send 1.
If its someone you dont like dont send any, better than giving them ideas.
And if your texting the missus just send back the exact same amount so as not to rock the boat and keep everything on an even keel as much as possible.
Simples.

Although it's sound advice here and feeds well into my ego (I very rarely receive less then three) I must say that is is probably a person to person thing in terms of intentions.

Fuck that!
Smileys are on the edge of what is acceptable, but to put these teenage letter combinations on an actual e-mail goes beyond all reason and logic. If someone does not realize that and expects me to reply with x-letters then they just have to live with that.
