Hello! WoW I really feel like I am talking to myself as I type the first few words. I was informed of this nifty little website by a friend and I have been instructed to "say hi" and get to know people and talk and learn and all sorts of crap! So here I am. I am done now.

now now now don't get cocky! i came of my own free will. I just could never think of a name and was too lazy to actually put creative thought into it. I just bought this history of philosophy book at the bargain table and am antsy to go read it! later " ABSTRACT" even though I know your real name and where you sleep at night!

Hey Peck, welcome to the board. Don't worry, your not talking to yourself - we are all listening! So do you have some sort of political ideology or are you leaning any direction? Hope you enjoy the board!

Thanks. I feel so communal when I read the threads, it's interesting.

I've been reading this History of Philosophy book I picked up at the bookstore I work at and while I thought I had a good overview of some of these philosophers, turns out, I know little. However, it was Socrates who believed that those who know they know nothing are the wisest. A man named Diogenes created what is known as cynicism saying we spend most of our lives chasing objects that are impossible to obtain, unecessary or already ours. It is this self-torture that restricts freedom, movement and thought. Humans spend too much tme solving problems of their own creation. I thought of that movie that has been out a while "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" when I read that "cynic" is the Greek word for dog, refering to how Diogenes lived his life, poor and dirty. I like my book.

With the capture of this sniper in the past few days I realize I could have exploited the fact I just knew his name would be Mohammed! It was so obvious his name would be Mohammed even if it was changed. Unoriginality is predictable.

Comrade:
As far as a particular political ideology I can't say as I have figured that out yet. Right now I am just researching, slowly but surely, what different beliefs are out there. It seems to be my nature to "ride the fence" on alot of things, but the more I do that I see that I am wasting my own time. I'm trying to become more definitive however I do not believe any one thing to the extreme. I try and live one day at a time, and on a case by case basis. I find faults with every political ideology, as well as every religion. Perhaps this will be a helpful forum to set a definitive basis of belief.

I love this quote, and welcome Peck, even though im new myself its good to see another who feels they are riding the fence too and still striving to be more definite. I feel the same way.

Its comforting for me to know though, so it might help you too, that the common people that I know (that are far from being politicians or capitalists) do not even care about a political ideology.... and life would go on just the same if governments existed or not....to them politics just dont carry any importance when it comes to happiness..

Yeah it is a great quote, often times I find myself wishing I had thought of alot of the lyrics in Live's songs. I had been listening to Mental Jewelry repeatedly during the month of September.

Within the circle of people I know or knew, current events never held much interest, which is really such a shame. Ignorance IS bliss, I remember it well actually. The more I become educated the more I feel the weight of burden on my shoulders. So many things that can be helped go on the world today but change just never seems to be fast enough. So much to say, so much to do, it becomes so overwhelming and apathetic people only make it more frustrating. Just as so many Americans want to be classified 'middle class' so many people spend their whole lives with no sense of social consciousness. Every day right after the next never becoming involved and "riding the fence' their whole lives! My mother has shown me the dangers of this way of living and has unknowingly taught me to be like this, it is only now that I am realizing this doesn't work for me. I could never be satisfied with a life that was wasted by refusing to stand up for something. There comes a point where one must decide. However, while knowledge brings power, it also brings sorrow.

Just curious, but exactly what sort of "crap" do you think you intend to learn about here?

Welcome aboard.
