Seven weight classes. Seven times on top.
Mayweather has reportedly agreed to terms.
Let's see it. It's time.
Alright, enough HBO melodramatic bs. Reportedly fight'll be as early as March. I pray that this one ain't in Las Vegas, and I'd say, for the fight that really could give Boxing a long-awaited megafight (nice to see the attention this has gotten compared to mma) Madison Square Garden would be the perfect fit.
However, with NY's taxes that'll never happen. It's rummored that Dallas could get it in the Cowboys new $bn shrine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_cowboys_stadium), and I'd say it'd be a perfect fit. No better salesman than Jerry Jones, TX has no income tax, and Dallas has a huge service industry (note, they were awarded the super bowl by the nfl in a couple years).
Anyways, no matter where it's fought it should be huge.
Oh, and one last thing: Kudos to Cotto for putting up a pretty good fight. Watched this at the bar because I didn't want to buy it with some buds and see another Ricky Hatton-style beatdown. But this was a good one, and I give him props for making the ref end it as opposed to sulking in the corner like De La Hoya. Needless to say, Cotto went out like a champ, but could not keep up with Pacquaio.
May Mayweather be humbled soon...

and by soon, I mean March 13th
MANILA, Philippines (AP) -- Manny Pacquiao is likely to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. on March 13 after agreeing to a proposal from promoter Bob Arum on Friday.
Arum presented "what he thought was the best proposal he can bring" during a two-hour breakfast meeting with Pacquiao in Manila, said Michael Koncz, an adviser of the Philippine boxing idol.
"Manny has some additional requirements, requests, which Arum didn't think was a problem," Koncz said. "The requests of Manny were so realistic that Arum doesn't feel it's a problem and it's pretty much a done deal."
He said the contract still needs "fine tuning," declining to elaborate.
"We all believe that it will be done," he said.
In an interview with GMA television, Pacquiao said, "March 13 is OK."
"The difference between Floyd and others I have fought is that Floyd makes a lot of trash talk that should not be imitated by young people," he said.
Arum could not be reached for comment.
Koncz, who is in charge of Pacquiao's boxing promotion company in
Nevada, said Pacquiao is "very comfortable" with the date.
Pacquiao is running for a congressional seat in May 2010 elections and official campaigning won't start before April.
If the bout goes ahead, it will match two men regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighters.
Boxing fans have been looking forward to a super fight between Pacquiao and the undefeated Mayweather after the Filipino champion defeated Miguel Cotto last month.
The March 13 date comes four months after the Cotto fight -- a shorter period of time than the six months after Pacquiao defeated Ricky Hatton. But Koncz said it will be enough time for Pacquiao to get back in shape.
"Nobody knows his body better than Manny," he said. "If Manny feels that that's plenty of time to rest and recover, then you know, he has to do what he feels is right."
He said Pacquiao "cannot train for more than seven weeks."
If the fight is made, there would likely be a Jan. 11 press conference in New York to announce it. The bout could be the richest ever, assuming pay-per-view projections are accurate.
Representatives of the Superdome in New Orleans and the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium have expressed interest in hosting the fight, as has the MGM Grand hotel-casino in Las Vegas, where the fighters have fought their biggest fights. There is also a proposal for a 30,000-seat temporary stadium on the Las Vegas Strip across from the Wynn resort.
Oddsmakers are already taking bets on the fight, with most making Mayweather a slight favorite.

Mayweather is a dirtbag. I'm happy to see this fight materializing, I hope he gets his ass knocked out. Pacquiao has been on a real tear, and I didn't expect him to run through Cotto like he did. Mayweather's punches are weaker than Cotto's and I think Pacquiao is faster than Mayweather.

In the early going of their fight, Zab Judah was matching up very well with Mayweather in terms of speed. Mayweather has speed, but it's not like he's in a class by himself or anything.

But sadly, I actually cannot see any fighter on the horison that is capable at the moment, even Pacquiao:(.

Yeah but thats just the thing, Mayweather is super fast and he moves just as fast the whole fight. He's like on speed or something. He also is a lot stronger than he seems. He beat Arturo Gatti senseless by simply slugging it out with him. Paquio will have to fight a flawless fight to beat Mayweather.

I want to say Pacquiao will win it hands down, but I'm not sure against Mayweather. Of course, I was doubting Manny against Cotta, due to size difference and different body/fighting techniques, and that shows you what happens when you doubt the filipino.

Mayweather is a coward, the stipulation he wants for the Pacquiao fight with the testing is almost unheard of.
I really, really don't like Mayweather. He talks shit about MMA and ducks top boxers. I hope this fight gets put together though so Pacquiao can knock his head off.

COmplete fucking coward. He's one of the best fighters of his generation and it does his talent no justice to whimp out.

I wouldn't call him one of the best fighters of his generation. He won't prove it against anyone in their prime. He won't fight Cotto, Margarito, Mosley and maybe now Pacman.
Floyd is a little ***** and he is trying to get into Manny's head. I think the fight will still go on and I think Pacman will pull it off. I had Manny over Cotto as well but I never expected it to be that big of a domination.

SARANGANI, Philippines (AP) -- Manny Pacquiao says he is planning to file a defamation lawsuit against Floyd Mayweather Jr., the fighter's father, and Golden Boy Promotions In a statement posted Friday on his Web site, Pacquiao claims that his character has been damaged and tarnished by accusations he says are untrue.
"Enough is enough," Pacquiao said in the statement. "These people, Mayweather Sr., Jr., and Golden Boy Promotions, think it is a joke and a right to accuse someone wrongly of using steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs. I have tried to just brush it off as a mere pre-fight ploy but I think they have gone overboard....

In this case I believe the litigation to be completely justifiable.
Floyd Sr has, in my opinion, been the bigger moron in all of this and obviously the apple did not fall far from the tree. But we new that all along, didn't we?
(by the way anybody see the HBO special covering pac and ricky hatton before their 'fight?' Anyways pac is working in this low rent gym, a real great story, working and sweating his ass off all day. Hattons practice starts late because Floyd Sr stopped by a taco bell and the practice lasts all of 30 minutes. It was pretty funny in retrospect)
COmplete fucking coward. He's one of the best fighters of his generation and it does his talent no justice to whimp out
Pacquiao said it best:
"Now, I say to Floyd Mayweather Jr., don't be a coward, and face me in the ring, mano-a-mano, and shut your big, pretty mouth, so we can show the world who is the true king of the ring."
