I think in some ways it has a similar take on things as Lenin's theory of imperialism, being that it talks of 'core' capitalist countries expliting 'periphery' developing countries. The big problem that Marxists have had with it is that it doesn't take class conflict into account, focussing more on the development of capitalism from an economic perspective.
