Barack Obama is set to send 30,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan. Is this the solution to the conflict?

No I don't think so. By increasing the offensive, the knee-jerk reaction to alien forces within the country will cause militant numbers to rise. I'm no expert but I don't think the style of combat in the middle east really suits large troop numbers. As its basically a war against tribesmen and famers, the difference between civilians and militants has become blurred meaning that the taliban or whatever militant force can exploit this confusion.
The example of the Vietnam can be used here. At first the US forces were really quite large, however the government soon withdrew troops as the Viet Cong were simply using guerilla tactics against the large force.
