World AIDS Day
(http://sify.com/news/End-discrimination-against-HIV-affected-people-UNAIDS-Dec-1-is-World-AIDS-Day-news-National-jl4qOcfiggj.html)
There was an overall need for support in strengthening health systems, including local, public, private and community-based health services, and for long-term effective initiatives to achieve universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care by 2010.

"The theme of this year's World AIDS Day is Universal Access and Human Rights. For me, that means doing everything we can to support countries to reach their universal access goals for HIV prevention, treatment, care and support - all the while protecting and promoting human rights."

I invite everyone who has been affected by AIDS, whether you have someone dear to you who is living with AIDS, or lost someone to AIDS, to change your avatar to the red ribbon and continue our fight against the greatest pandemic of our generation.

I'd put it, but I gave my contribution already.

I'm a boy scout, and I was out on a petition (is that how you say going with a box asking for money?) to make money to fight AIDS.

It's actually great to see that people still give a lot of money, even in a recession.

Heres an unusual approach, tho I do like it. Its better than the abstinence based education they teach here in the south.

Chinese authorities plan to open a gay (http://carnalnation.com/content/40122/898/chinese-government-opens-gay-bar) bar in Dali City as a means to combat the rise in HIV cases in Yunnan Province, reports China View (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2009-11/30/content_12563452.htm). About a third of new AIDS cases last year were the result of homosexual sex, according to the country's Health Minister, and the government plans to curb infections by educating gay men on safer sex.

Why are they specialising in homosexuals ? the same risks apply with hetero sexuals during intercourse , why don't they just do a cross the board education about aids basically saying anal/oral gay/straight... use a condom , don't get aids.well not exactly that but you know what I'm saying.

The link between homosexuality and aids is blown out of proportion and used as an excuse to suppress gay rights by right wing powers.

I totally agree with that sentiment. The highest numbers of new infections are women, alot of them being married women.

What I have seen, those women who are the new infections, are contracting HIV from their husbands, who may not identify as gay, but have unprotected sex with men who are infected. Our hands are tied here as well as educating young people in schools, where the school boards have a abstinence based education policy, which stems from religious views. Their children dont have sex under they are married. :rolleyes:

AIDS Awareness Origin
The Red Ribbon Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Jabara#Red_Ribbon_Project) was created by the New York-based Visual AIDS (http://thebody.com/visualaids/about.html) Artists Caucus in 1991.:

Remain anonymous as individuals and to credit the Visual AIDS Artists Caucus as a whole in the creation of the Red Ribbon Project, and not to list any individual as the “creator” of the Red Ribbon Project;
Keep the image copyright free, so that no individual or organization would profit from the use of the red ribbon;
The Red Ribbon should be used as a consciousness raising symbol, not as a commercial or trademark tool.
The artists who formed the Visual AIDS Artists Caucus wished to create a visual symbol to demonstrate compassion for people living with AIDS and their caregivers. Inspired by the yellow ribbons honoring American soldiers serving in the Gulf war, the color red was chosen for its, "connection to blood and the idea of passion -- not only anger, but love, like a valentine." First worn publicly by at the 1991 Tony Awards, the ribbon soon became renowned as an international symbol of AIDS awareness, becoming a politically correct fashion accessory on the lapels of celebrities. The Red Ribbon continues to be a powerful force in the fight to increase public awareness of HIV/AIDS and in the lobbying efforts to increase funding for AIDS services and research.
