Who do you like better? From what I have seen, Carlin was more political and Hicks was political occasionally and hit the nail on the head every time.

I admittedly haven't seen much of Bill Hicks, although I've been told I'd like him. Carlin was brilliant, and his more serious thoughts have often been a source of inspiration when I start behaving in a more narrow minded outlook.

From what I have seen, Carlin was more political and Hicks was political occasionally and hit the nail on the head every time. That's a good description - Carlin was sort of all over the place like political-comedy shrapnel whereas Hicks was sort of a laser-guided missile of political comedy insight. I guess I'll go with Carlin on a comedy basis - he had more time to work on his craft and it comes through in those later shows.

What other good political stand-up is out there? I hate about 99% of stand-up and worship the other 1%.

I like Stephen Colbert but that's more performance rather than stand-up.

Anyone heard the David Cross comedy CDs? He's really mixed politically but he makes fun of racists and right-wing Christians constantly. He also has a bit about George W. Bush asking for US troops in Iraq to "pry for your president" like he is a feudal monarch eating roasted duck with his bare hands whist being entertained by his court jester, Dennis Miller. Also racist zombies: "I'm a rotting oozing zombie... hey, other zombie, is that decomposing puss filled skin on your rotting corpse... black? Ewwwwww, get away from me!"

Careful socialist, Carlin considered himself a leftist-liberal and an anarchist (although he also claimed to not endorse or belong to any movements). :p

(Just playing, please don't hate me) I had guessed he was a leftist of some sort, but he did criticize liberals heavily in one of his performances.

You should read the autobiography they just put out, it's quite good.

So far its 2-10 in favor of Carlin. I'm guessing people haven't heard about Hicks because of his premature death.:blushing:

both of them act like wankers if they get heckled.

funny as they are that is what makes you realise they are 'american comics'. Shouting and swearing is nothing compared to a good put down

This thread needs some Irwin Corey. He's an old-style socialist well into his nineties, but he's still funny as fuck.

George Carlin all the way.

This shouldn't even be a question.

I'm going to pretend that you misread 'Bill Hicks' as 'Dane Cook', so that nobody gets hurt.
