Im surprised that this hasnt been up here before.
All over the news here the latest report from the commision into child sex abuse at the hands of the Catholic Clergy in Ireland has been released which focused on the Dublin Diocese.
What wen on in these reform schools is nothing short of sadism and most of all it is the fact that the whole establishment has been implicated in this institutionalised peadophilia.
The way these reform schools operated is really an endightment against the whole Irish Ruling class.
Firstly kids from over whelmingly working class backgrounds were "shoveled" (as the report describes it) into these reform schools by the judicial system.
They were deemed as being truants, petty criminals or coming from disfunctional familys when ever the report recognised "their only crime was being born into poverty".
These children were then shipped off to reform schools which were all over the country.
While in these reform schools the children were subjected to physical, mental and sexual abuse on a daily basis.
Children were often beaten to death with implements they were told to make themselves in the workshops.
Such as leather straps with strips of metal placed within them.
Now many will ask why werent the authorities informed when children turned up with horrific injuries and even deaths but the Doctors who examined these cases were often fully complicit with the instituionalised torture of working class children.
Some of the acts which are now in the public domain can only be described as Sadism and if you do want to inform yourself just google the stories.
When the Police were informed of the torture of the children they also turned a blind eye as the doctors and as the state inspectors who inspected these schools.
Many will ask why did the Clergy want so many reform schools and so many children at their mercy.
The answer to that is money. The state subsidised these schools and not only that but these reform schools operated as a form of child slave labour where they worked and often these reform schools made a quite healthy profit to boost the coffers of the Church.
Anytime the whistle was blown on the torture of these children it was swiftly covered up by the Church, the Police, the Doctors, the State and the judiciary.
As for the line from the Clergy that things have changed well evidently not as the Commission itself said that during the course of the investigation the Clergy continuously obstructed the investigation, justice and the truth.
It is also coming to light aswell in the latest report that the Clergy had peadophile rings operating within some schools where non-Clergy men would come in and rape the children with the approval of Clergy men.
These are just a few random links I found on google but I do suggest watching videos of the survivors of these schools, its really quite horrific.
I know myself a few of the older lads I work with went through these schools, one of them couldnt read nor write until he was in his 40s because he ran away from one of these schools because of the torture. And another one killed his father because when he was a child his father prostituted him to the clergy to feed his alcohol addiction. Not to mention my aunts and uncles who went through these schools whose stories I have yet to hear.
All I can say is that I hope all the culprits involved are victims of systematic red terror in the near future.
