If you are a Satanist, here are some bands to consider. In the process of trying to find more Black Metal bands that I can add to my playlist, I kept running into Satanists! I am not a Satanist, therefore I could not be able to relate to their lyrics or appreciate it. It's like listening to a christian band to me. [Even though technically Satanists are christians for a belief in Satan requires the belief in the christian / Jewish god]
...anyway, here is the list:
Tsjuder
1349
Gorgoroth
Immortal
Carpticon
Anorexia Nervosa
Imperial Chrystalline Entombment
Urgehal
Blodsrit
Krypt
Anal ****
Anal Vomit
Dissection
Dimmu Borgir
Morbid Angel
Kataklysm
Heaven Shall Burn
Fear Factor
Decide
Incantation

They're not really Satanist, it's kind of an anti-christ, anti-establishment thing, at least that's how I see most of them. From looking up the church burnings in Norway in the 90s it seems the definitions for Satanism, for these black metal bands at least, are generic and/or quite varied. Although an awesome band that are actually Satanist are Deicide.

Some artists to consider (I was Church of Satan and United Order of Cerberus for a very long time, actually. Still hang in those circles a good bit):
-The Electric Hellfire Club is dope
-So is My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult
-The guitarist of Alkaline Trio is a member of the Church of Satan I believe
-Darkthrone definitely
-you already mentioned Gorgoroth, but definitely one of the best nonetheless
-Michael Moynihan's neofolk project Blood Axis is very LaVey-inspired, but I don't think Moynihan himself is a member of the COS or is a LaVeyan Satanist himself.
-The Genitorturers are hot, really good fucking industrial
-The Black Legions from France (Les Legions Noir) are a collective of pretty fucking evil musical projects. Good stuff, albeit VERY hard to find!
There are some other (Theistic) Satanic black metal bands, but a lot of the National Socialist Black Metal or that Boyd Rice/NON-inspired noise/martial-industrial/neofolk bullshit.

The problem with Burzum is, Varg Vikernes is a goddamn fascist. Now, I love Burzum on a purely musical basis and I listen/listened to it a lot, but I can't stand the fact Vikernes is a fascist. Burzum seems to be headed the NSBM way anyway with their upcoming album 'The White God', a shame really.

euhm, burzum is a one man project so yes burzum is and always has been NSBM (varg vikernes was an nazi skinhead before he became an metalhead)

I don't consider Burzum to be NSBM, because Nazi ideology isn't really a part of the music... I mean, by a stretch, he talks about TEH OLD GAWDS!!!1111 and VALHALLUH!!!1111 and shit like that, so his Norse Paganism is certainly connected to his Nazism... but overt Nazi themes are absent in Burzum.
Also, Varg wasn't a Nazi until after he was sent to prison, at least according to the Vargsmal (his rambling, barely-coherent autobiography that he attempted to write in the style of the Norse eddas). His "Nazism" in the black metal scene at that time was also mixed with Theistic Satanism at a very crude level, and was mainly just to be as "evil" as possible rather than actually any racialist convictions. Nazis are evil, Satan is evil, hur durr durr I know, I'll be a NAZI SATANIST!!!!111
Oddly enough Euronymous- his bandmate in Mayhem- also claimed to be a "Stalinist-Maoist" and joined the AKP Norge. However when he found out that we Maoists actually AREN'T bloodthirsty totalitarians hellbent on intentionally killing tens of millions of innocent people, and that nearly all (sane) Maoists reject Pol Pot and the North Koreans, he abandoned Communism because it wasn't "evil" enough.
Lulz, I love Black Metal. It's so ridiculously stupid.

Well it isn't NSBM actually. Burzum's lyrical themes have (up until recently) always be rather politically-neutral. Vikernes was indeed a Nazi skinhead (and a very violent one at that too, who got a few good deserved beatings) before he went into metal. But Burzum, as a musical project, openly expressing NS views is a rather recent phenomenon.
Burzum wasn't always a one-man-project though, in the early days, Øystein Aarseth aka Euronymous used to contribute to Burzum. Aarseth was in fact a communist and a Red Youth member, albeit a rather silly one claiming "communism was the best system for mankind, but since he was a misanthrope he wanted 'communism' only in it's most 'grimdark' form, hence admiring Pol Pot".
Vikernes was a nazi before he went to prison though, he even tried to attack the Blitz antifascist squat, something he should have been shot for in the first place. Nevertheless, I like Burzum on a purely musical basis.

Dude I can't believe I totally forgot one of the best Swedish Satanic black metal bands ever (Lord Ahriman and Emperor Magnus Caligula are both members of the Church of Satan): DARK FUNERAL!
Vobiscum Satanas and Diabolis Interium are both excellent albums that are totally dedicated to the praise of Satan and promoting the LaVeyan Satanic philosophy.
Oh, and I almost forgot:

Just kidding, they liked to shock people with their album cover--since they reject god and christianity and such.

Don't satanists tend to be atheists - recognising god/religion as a social construct but seeing the idea of, I don't know, being rebellious, anti-establishment etc as inherent within humans?

I would guess most of them yeah, but it probly depends on each individuals personal opinion.
