What is everyone's opinion here about the New Deal? I mean, I know it wasn't a socialist program to democratize the economy but it seemed like it was a start that helped out the workers, right? Well, there is all this revisionism coming from the right that the New Deal did not get the US out of the Depression, but it was WWII. Well didn't WWII involve massive government spending too?

Also, wasn't some New Deal legislation drafted up by socialists too?

Much of the New Deal legislation had been part of the socialist platform for years, if thats what you mean.

The New Deal was certainly a bette economic policy than anything the right's given us, but did not go far enough in combating the depression, leaving the door wide open for right wing types to make the absurd claim that it hindered the economic rebound.

It certainly helped to combat the depression, but it certainly is the case that ultimately it was WWII that got the US out of the depression. There was also much fear that the US would plunge right back into depression after the war, but things like the Marshall plan helped the US go through what is sometimes referred to as the "golden age of capitalism"

But do right wingers not see that WWII also involved government spending?

Reform if you would preserve.

Well didn't the UK nationalize a whole set of things after the war? How did that work out before the inflation of the 70s? What's the opinion of Clement Atlee in here?

They ought to if they don't. WWII production actually involved probably the most "central planning" the US economy has ever engaged in.
