How the hell did Hangman develop into a childrens game? The whole premis of it sounds somewhat macabre for a childsgame.

Hangman is the game where you guess letters of a word and for every wrong guess you draw another line on a drawing of a man getting hanged.

Hangman has it's origins in Victorian society, and people probably didn't see it that way back then. Public executions used to be quite popular events, although I think they weren't as common in the Victorian times as they had been before then.

I have heard that football developed from children in London kicking around the heads of those who were executed by decapitation originally.

I'd never even thought about this. RA's explanation sounds plausible since a lot of traditional children's stuff comes from a time when we clearly gave less of a shit (imagine "ring-a-ring o' roses" the delightful rhyme and dance about dying of some horrific disease if someone tried to make it popular now).

Apparently one of the first times I played hangman with my parents as a kid I used the word "revolution" as the one to guess. Fucking hardcore, me.

Apparently this is one of the QI-style urban myths, but I could easily be wrong.
Being a pedantic bastard my favourite Hangman was always "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia", just for the sheer length of it.

I'll have to look into that. I always assumed it was correct since it sounded plausible but perhaps not...

Me and my friends used specific categories, like songs. Being an asshole, when ever we had songs I always used Nel blu di pinto di blu.(or another foreign song) No one ever guessed it, ever.
