Salud,
I am a 22-yr-old member of the Socialist Party USA - Michigan branch. I am entering my fifth year at the University of Michigan-Flint majoring in social science and minoring in history, political science, and sociology.
I got interested in Left politics in late 1998, partially due to listening to Rage Against The Machine. I came across Socialists online who I talked with regularly, than bought a copy of the Communist Manifesto and the Che Reader. I joined Youth For International Socialism (YFIS), a Trotskyist youth organization, around December 1999 and remained a member until I was expelled in May 2001 for being too "anarcho", or as they said, "petite-bourgeois". It was not until 2002 that I read through the Socialist Party USA website and emailed the Michigan branch secretary, that I ultimately joined in May 2002. We have roughly 45 members here in Michigan and soon to have two candidates for State Representatives (on the ballot as Greens, as we lack ballot access ourselves).
I have a website of my essays, poems, and whatnot if anyone is bored enough to check it out here (http://www.geocities.com/melt17i/).
Does anyone on here live in Michigan? I am always looking for Leftists here in Michigan, whatever your political affiliation.
In Solidarity,
Josef X. Weidt
