Scary development. Now people who are members of labour unions in Sweden may end up on a government register of union members. Given that the current Swedish government isn't exactly worker friendly, I say that this is a worrying development.
And even if Sweden had a socialist or worker-controlled government, a national register isn't a good idea.

I've added this to the workers' rights by country as it's informative on the situation regarding workers' personal liberty and increasing state control over workers' organisation and struggle. Thanks for the post!

I think union members should keep a list of known union-busting lawyers, to circulate among themselves... uh, just for "fun".

Not good... not good... I don't like the idea of state registers holding information on people.

Flipping heck. We are all probably on a government list, just for posting on this forum. That and then add records of what books we buy online, or what correspondance we have with parties (even if its just to purchase leaflets or journals). It wouldnt surprise me at all.

Yes In that point your right. But when its gets official in the press, we leftists sould show our resistance on these kind of "Registrations" so the public can understand that the wokers do not tolerate a police state. I will suggest a demonstration in sweden.

To clarify, what they want to do is to keep a register of those who are members of an unemployment fund, not of everyone who is a union member. Being a member of a union doesnt necessarily mean youre part of an unemployment fund, or vice versa, although the two often go hand in hand. You can also be part of an unemployment fund managed by a different union than the one youre a member of.
That being said, were all probably on a few different lists.

It is still a bit intrusive, and would just make more people wary of joining a union.

Of course, couldnt agree more. It sucks. However, were still not at the stage where the government officially registers all the union members.

I think they are an obvious attempt to discriminate against not just the working classes, but anyone who has a political conciousness.
