Grauniad
14th June 2002, 15:48
There is a newspaper in the UK, The Guardian, years ago there were so many errors in it, not factual more on the lines of upside down articles missing paragraphs etc, that one satirical magazine, Private Eye, renamed it The Grauniad, on the grounds that it was only a matter of time before thet screwed up that too.

Dhul Fiqar
15th June 2002, 17:27
Dhul Fiqar or Zhul Fiqar (depends on where you're from) was the sword of Muhammad the Prophet (saws). He gave it to his cousin Ali, the fourth Caliph and by some accounts the last righteous Caliph of Islam.
In any case, he is much admired in Islam because he was a martyr along with his two sons, Hassan and Hussein, but that created a problem of who would take over the Caliphate of the Islamic Ummah. It led to a split that has lasts to this day between "Sunni" and "Shi'a" Islam.
To me, it represents honorable principles, history, righteousness, martyrdom and God (SWT).
--- G. Raven
Dhul Fiqar--Why do you have Marx's quote that religion "is the opiate of the people" if you are Muslim? I take Marx's quote to be quite anti-religion.

Mine emanates form me wanting to pay homage to the retiring baskteball player Dan Majerle who has filled my short life with many memories. :)
I think no one know what this name is, It developt when I first heard of Che and stuff, and I needed a nickname with counterstrike, it was then "Guerrilla W.F." After the counterstrike period it was my tagname (for graffiwrites) it was reduced to GWF, but it means "Guerrilla Warfare"

"Son of" was a way of taking the piss out of each other at my workplace. If you look, sound or act like someone well known, then you are their "son".Because I'm always pushing for trade union recognition at work,I became Son of Scargill,in reference to Arthur Scargill, leader of the NUM,and Socialist Labour Party founder.

Just kidding lol.. It's not well thought out actually. Just "Red" for socialism and "Celtic" for the Glasgow Celtic Football Club which I'm a fourth generation supporter of. My father's family came from Glasgow. There is a large fan base here in New York, and a few clubs for it's supporters.

WolfieSmith
17th June 2002, 15:14
"Wolfie Smith" was a character in the 70's British TV sitcom "Citizen Smith" (its a nickname my friends and family gave me).
Wolfie (or "Foxie" as his girlfriend's mother called him) was a marxist and the leader of the "Tooting Popular Front".
His favorite slogans were "Power To The People" and "Freedom For Tooting". He liked to refer to "that glorious day" when he would put his enemies before a firing squad and go "bang, bang, bang..."

TO ABSTRACTMENTALITY
I haven't played much on counterstrike on the web (modem, you know...)
But I always pick the deagle and a shotgun, with 9 oppenents (realbots) go to the front door and shoot them all, shotgun empty, trow away, shoot with deagle, try to aim for the head (instand death). When the deagle is empty pick another gun, or pick shotgun up and go to a corner or something reload both and shoot again.
tip: try practicing on bots, there alot easier than the real hardcore gamers. but you 'll learn some tacticts, the course I allways do is assault, but when your plannig on going to internetgames or LAN, pick dust (in the old days was that used far most) Hope you have something on this.

j
I'm not a practicing Muslim, but I believe in Islam. My spirituality is too complicated to go into here ;)
Anyway, I have the quote to make a point about out of context quoting. If you took the part about "Sigh of the oppressed creature, soul of soulless conditions and the heart of a heartless world" but leave out the opiate part it sounds like an endorsement. But if you take just the last part it sounds like an indictment.
My point is that Marx was a pluralistic, intelligent man that didn't see religion as either black or white. Religion is not either "evil and a useless crutch" or a "glorious thing and the only road to salvation."
I think it's a far more complicated issue than it's made out to be, and so is life in general.

8th July 2002, 05:14
My name is taken from a song that my little brother listens to. You see, my sister had come down from Brooklyn and she and I visited our younger brother (well, half-brother really) who is an Evangelical Christian. He has a CD, and I can't remember who it's by, but he played it for us because he thought it made him look cool. And the band who made the CD was actually Satanist-sounding. Neither my sister nor I had the heart to tell him that he was listening to a bunch of heathens, but we were laughing all day. Anyway, I couldn't get the song out of my head and the only line I remembered was "I will deny you, baby". So there you go.

"Cecilia" is a song of Simon&Garfunkel, it was there where that one came from. (Funny, I love that song, and mom told me the history of my name lately)
The Name Avamatha... Well, there is this band, Blackmore's night, and they have a song, Catherine Howard's fate, and there is this part, inwich they say "of a letter", and I always heard it as "Avamatha".

Fires of History
16th July 2002, 05:29
Mine is simply my view of history. I double majored in history, and to me history is very alive, here, now. History is still burning, just as you, me, all of us are very much a part of this unfolding story (which is a little reminder that anyone can effect the timeline, even though this idea is popularly doubted right now for some reason). The fires of history continue to be the reason why I even care to this day. Our history is the long story of bad decision making, selfish decision making, self-righteous decision making, and decision making- recently- with nothing but money in mind over any other concern; and, as such, it is a killing field of untold magnitude. For all of our achievements, history is still the story of death, oppression, and class war. The story, in short, of those with the means and ownership overrunning those without. These fires that have been burning forever are tempering something very special that has yet to come in humanity, as I hope that one day humanity can overcome it's domineering tendencies. My hope is that one day history will not be a story of war and death, but one of individual actualization and progress. History is the subject that led me to activism, and ultimately is the study that showed me how everything Marx said was exactly spot on. How many innocents have died in the fires of history? How many are still consumed by this fire to this day? I'd be an old, fuddy-duddy consevative now if I could have created the name "Clear Beautiful Waters of History." lol...
And, no, my name has nothing to do with the Billy Joel song.

Actually, the Britons send Cesar running back to Rome in around 44BC( i am probably wrong). the fact that the britons usd Chariots (which had become obsolete in 1200 BC) so well made the romans at first weak against them.

Boadicea88: the reasons that send boadicea to batlle agaonst the romans were more than the ones you told, first her father negotiated peace with romans, but the romans killed her father and took her house and lands, then her husband was too weak and couard and run, so she was revolted with everyone (expecialy the romans) and killed thousands and thousands of romans

Megatron...come on now, do I really need to explain?
Chief antagonist on the oldskool cartoon Transformers, and the leader of the Decepticon armies. A cartoon celebrity.
He was also the T-Rex and leader of the Predicons in Beast Wars which was intertwined with transformers.
My first name was semaj which is my name, James backwards, but i listed my e-mail adress as my secondary name which i rarely use. When I relized my mistake I tried to retreive the password but I forgot the password to my screen name. So I registered again but I couldn't think of a name but out of the blue i started thinking about drums. I thought of a timbali drum but I spelled it wrong and now I'm stuck with this.

Eh...let's not mention THAT Megatron. Transformers was forever desecrated when Megatron became a T-Rex, Dragon, and [now] a tank.

Praxis is defined by webster as "a customary mode of behavior." Many socialist thinkers have used the term to describe the way the proletariat educates itself to the ways and means of capitalism (most notably Marx, Gramsci and Friere). 1966 is the year of the foundation of The Black Panther Party. (By the way, when he was doing an NPR interview, I actually got to speak to Bobby Seale on the phone.)
