Okay...would it not be epic for a renewed EZLN insurrection to be sparked on December 21, 2012, as the Zapatistas predominantly consist of Tzotzil Mayans? :D

Yes, I realize that the belief of cataclysmic event associated with that date is largely a contrivance confusing to Mayans themselves. Since it would be launched against a Hispanic political class that might believe in the phenomenon, let's stick with the epicness, tho.

Is the political class in Mexico not constituted primarily by criollo males rather than Native Americans?

So they predicted the year Cortes arrived, and the year they regain their freedom.

2012 is Year 100 in the Juche Calendar.

Year One starts at Kim Il-sung's birth, April 15th, 1912. Which is the same day the Titanic sank.

The more you know.....

Wow... I recommend you get a gf and make her birthday the biggest date on your calendar. If you're gay, do thus with a bf. Furthermore, if you're attractive, move to Bristol and make my birthday the most important date on your calendar. Actually, just make my birthday the most important date in your calendar anyway. 20/4/89. Buy me things. Send me Danish pastries.

So they predicted the year Cortes arrived, and the year they regain their freedom.

That would be the Aztecs, though the idea that they believed Cortes was Quetzalcoatl is likely mythical.

There was a disgusting historical revisionist named Thor Heyerdahl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor_Heyerdahl)who thought the civilizations like the Maya, Incas and Aztecs were due to being supposedly "taught" by ancient white "Nordic" explorers (he also claimed Nordic origins in Polynesians and Azeris).

When the Spaniards came to Peru, Heyerdahl asserted, the Incas told them that the colossal monuments that stood deserted about the landscape were erected by a race of white gods who had lived there before the Incas themselves became rulers. The Incas described these "white gods" as wise, peaceful instructors who had originally come from the north in the "morning of time" and taught the Incas' primitive forefathers architecture as well as manners and customs. They were unlike other Native Americans in that they had "white skins and long beards" and were taller than the Incas. The Incas said that the "white gods" had then left as suddenly as they had come and fled westward across the Pacific. After they had left, the Incas themselves took over power in the country.

Seeing as there have been Mexican Revolutions in 1810 and 1910, one in 2010 would be better.

EZLN Uprising in 2012? So the end of the world will not be heralded by alien invasions, but by RATM concerts and teenagers in Che shirts?

It's even worse than the 2012 people said it would be.
