*Viva La Revolucion*

Because I'm fairly new to this, I'm finding it hard to know how to get involved in politics around where I live. I'm going to become a member of the YCL as soon as I get my bank account details sorted out. I don't know anybody who is interested in politics unless you count a few right-wing friends, but it goes without saying that I'm not going with them to the Young Conservatives or whatever it is.
So what can I do? How can I find out about local groups that would be welcoming towards someone completely new and slightly ignorant? I'm worried in case I won't know enough to be able to join in with discussions about theory, but I'd be able to help in actual demonstrations and with other areas.
Anywhere at all in the North-East of England would be great. I don't want to say any more about my location because you never know who's reading this site.
