Comrades may be pleasantly surprised to know that there was a thriving Soviet jazz scene in the 1920's and 30's, but it was was mostly suppressed in the 1940's, when all musical forms other than military marches were demonized in the press prior to being effectively banned.

EDIT: I see some comrades have already posted some Soviet jazz videos in other threads. But I think we can still have a lot of discussion about how cool this genre was and the reasons why it was destroyed. Long live the greats of the Soviet sax!
