I have music in many difference languages, but mind you I like to be diverse when it comes to music. I listen to songs in almost every single genre imaginable, including many of which aren't in English. I have Russian, Japanese, German, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, the list goes on...

I haven't heard many non-political songs that weren't in English, but I find many languages to be musically beautiful. Anyone got any favourites in other languages?

Well, english is non-native for me ;)
Except for english.... Mostly German, and sometimes latin or Finnish slips in. Dutch is very rare.
I like to hear Spanish and Greek, but coïncidentally I have no music in that language.

Oh! Gealic (sp?)! Got some celtic songs, go figure. Actually, I think after english it's the most frequent language on my playlist :blushing:

Swedish sounds great to me. Finntroll might be why i like it though.

I have heard some chinese pop/rap/r&b and it definitely sounds better sung than spoken. no offense to any chinese comrades.

Japanese is good. It's too bad that all those emo / scene kids took it all over with their anime obsession.

I don't really like the poppy/modern stuff, but there's one or two good songs. But yeah, I have lots of albums in traditional style. Nour Eddine, Master Musicians of Jajouka, Houria Aichi, etc., YOU NAME IT I GOT IT

There is a lot of music in Spanish that I like and can understand fairly well from Italian.

In Italian you could try the Italian-Neapolitan music of a group called 99 Posse. For example...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8FgayonSGE&feature=related

I can't get embed to work.

It's a shame that Italian language music is not better known in the "outside" world... the words are quite poignant.

If you're trying to learn a foreign language, listening to music in that language is a great tool. It's helped me a lot in all of the languages I've learned/are learning.

One of my favorite singers is Edith Piaf, a French singer who was most popular back in the '40s and '50s. I also have a lot of other French stuff, along with some German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Armenian, Irish Gaelic, Polish... and I think that's it. I love foreign music. :D

I hold the lyrics element in ultra high esteem,so i mostly listen to stuff i can understand, greek or english.

French female rapper, the one and only, Keny Arkana:The remix by methismena xotika, a greek punk rock / hip hop band, with extremely good lyrics, class oriented, anarchist and revolutionary.
Here's their website, all songs free to download of course. ;)

Greek hip hop these days seems to be a struggle between anti-establishment and 'classic' self-adoring US style gangsta rap.

No need to mention where i stand.

Yeah I don't really care what language music is in to be honest. At the end of the day it doesn't really matter, music is music, and furthermore, if I don't understand it I can always look up translations on the net and that only increases my appreciation of it.

I particularly like NDM/modern german industrial music, like Rammstein/Eisbrecher/etc, but I also enjoy a lot of rap. I'm a big fan of MC Solaar (french rapper), as well as Drunken Tiger (korean rap group) and MC Sniper (korean rapper). I also like american latino hip hop, and some mexican rap is decent too. Spanish-language rap in general is good.

I liked the Tinariwen album last year a lot but i find it hard to connect with songs when i dont know the lyrics - same reason i cant get into classical music, really. I can hear how fantastic it is but ultimately, to my uneducated ears, its just a bunch of noise.

ONE SONG FOR THE NEO-NAZIS
Do neo-nazis have a soul, too?
Heart of stone, and dull-minded
..I can't tolerate that!
Smash their ribs
Cum on their brains
Beat a neo-nazi bastard, every single day

Don't think about it, at all
it's quite right to beat neonazis (it's actually fucking brilliant! :p)
and to rub their faces on the ground

You get a heart full of joy, when you hit nazis

Some Nueva Trova/Cancion is always nice.
This one is a concert which was held in Managua,....while there was a Contra invasion in Nicaragua,....it's got subtitles, so that you'll understand what they're saying or singing. Very intresting.
