So it seems things do not bode well for the U.S. war effort. Not only is suicide on the rise, but instances of drug abuse as well.

This isn't too surprising, especially in a time of active imperialism where many Armed forces personnel are being sent to fight and the dehumanising process is heightened, suicide rates, drug abuse (inc. alcoholism), domestic abuse, loss of social skills etc. usually goes up. It's another example of how, the Armed forces, despite playing a role of class oppression as the violent wing employed by the Capitalist class, it's the same story as working class people join following false promises, or a need to find some form of work in order to survive, and then get fucked over.
