ThanksThe migration of Tamil workers(or slaves, whatever), has very little to do with the LTTE when compared to another group of Tamils. The Tamil community in Sri Lanka is composed of three groups: Sri Lankan Tamils, Indian Tamils and Muslim Tamils(of Arab or Moorish ancestry).

The Sri Lankan Tamil population had its own monarchy at and around Jaffna, which was until last year a stronghold of the LTTE. This Tamil population is more than two thousand years old. The Moorish Tamils settled in Sri Lanka in the middle-ages.

But was it not the pulling out of the british impearialist forces who favoured the tamils who paid more attention to education and were said to be harder working by the brits that caused the tension between the two communities?

No, to be honest, the Sinhalese are a fairly racist people. They not only oppressed the Tamils, but everyone else. Most people who had somewhere else to go, left after independence, and not just for the usual colonist reasons of leaving.

I saw some clips from about 20 years ago where the government captured tamil tigers and put tyres round their necks tied their hands and feet and then set the rope on fire and it melted to their faces and bodies overnight.
Was really upsetting.
