Here we have one misunderstood guy who wants to save the world from the evil planet Nibiru in year 2012

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Apparently by building a golden pyramid in Sweden. Best you all start to buy tickets.

By the way, the pyramid only would have room for 144 000 people.

I think the hysteria was a bit larger around the year 2000. I would say the reason would be alienation under capitalism. When year 2012 passes and nothing happens, my guess is that we will see a lot of suicides.

What I am somewhat afraid of is that some madman will try to actually start judgement day by for example blowing up sarine balloons in a subway or flying airplanes into skyscrapers.

thats some of the more crazy shit i am fearing.

maybe the human species would end because people think its going to end and wind up causing humanity becoming extinct.

theres a word for that, but i dont know it.

I think if you're keeping time by mayan methods then you'll need to get a new calendar or something or start again at the beginning of your old one.

it's usually the apocalyptic freaks that think 2012 is going to end the world. They're usually into other stuff like Nostradamus and sometimes even Biblical prophecies of doom.

It's the New Agers that actually think it's going to be the opposite, ushering in a golden age. You know, "this is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius"....

Dimentio

New Agers tend to be quite entertaining. The guy in the links I posted mean that the survivors will go into a new golden age, with himself as a king reigning from a golden pyramid. I am quite uncertain whether he sincerely believes in that or if he's a quack.

There are was this old hag that surfaced in the media in Iceland, a total new age freak. She wanted to rule the world as a queen (also from a pyramid - one that would be based in Iceland) with former conservative party leader David Oddsson as her trophy king. She also threatened to personally beat up this reporter if he wouldn't give her private interviews and publicity.

My god, there I was, thinking things couldn't be as batshit insane in the real world as they are on the internet. Bloody new age nutters.

Quite a lot of people actually believe this crap. If find it highly curious since, when confronted with the nature of a lot of the things they wind themselves up about (police-state, privatisation, etc) and you explain the root of the problem is the capitalist mode of production and it's accompanying relations they seem to think that's "far-fetched"

I died a little inside when our health minister appeared in the media believing in healing hands.

The funny thing is that noone of the alternative medicine folks really believe in it. Or else sentence such as this one would be normal: "No no, I don't need any cancer treatment, I'll just hold this wonderful healing pyramid for a while and I'll be as good as new." Followed by alternative medicine folks dying in scores

As far as I'm aware most new age folks put their trust to conventional medicine when majorly sick. Although they offcourse hold on to their pyramid so they can claimed it was it that helped them fight of the disease.

I can't say I've heard of much new age folks dying because they wouldn't use conventional medicine, while I've heard lots of stories of christian fundamentalists (mainly in the US) who refused treatment of their children and such, so I would assume the stories of new age folks refusing medicine would come out.

On the other hand most newspapers here have had bias towards alternative crap the last decades.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next "major world religions" (IE what Christianity and Islam etc are now) were somehow derived from New Age wankery. I mean, during Roman times you had the official state polytheism, but you also had a load of kooky little sects based on resurrection and god-men, like Mithraism as well as the one that turned out to become top dog (Christianity).

Am I making any sense?

I think that if our world will suffer a major disaster creating a new series of Dark Ages, religious turmoil could very well lead into new world religions. But christianity and islam are so well in-grained that they probably never would vanish.

That's utter bollocks. I'm pretty sure the priests of ancient Egypt felt the same way about their religion, now look how things have turned out.

If religion doesn't become extinct, then there will be new ones, I'm pretty sure of that.

The difference of course being that the ancient Egyptians did not have access to mediums to spread, copy and store written information in extreme amounts. Most Egyptians did not have access to written transcripts about their religion.

That and the mythologies of the ancient world were limited to small regional areas. Historically the religions that have been able to set up in a more widespread area have survived (i.e Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism). If any of the major religions today go by the way side it will most likely be religions like Hinduism, Confucianism, and Taoism. As they are still restricted to a relatively small area as opposed to the global religions I mentioned before.

The whole Mayan calender thing is non sense. They will be the first to tell you they never predicted the world will end in 2012, it was something nuts in the west came up with. People are neglecting to mention that they ahve found other calenders that go much later. One was found in Guatemala that goes to 4775.
