Watching a video diary of the history of the CP-USA. Very excellent indeed. It seems like labor really organized itself back then and there were heavy strikes that always dominated the scene. They showed a picture of one of their conventions, an indoor stadium packed to the nines with banners reading "Repeal Taft-Hartley the Slave Labor Act". Fascinating stuff but it saddens me that today that would seem so radical that workers would shun away from it for fear of being discriminated.

I doubt the CP-USA packs the stadiums like that today. If ANY party even repeated one third of what they said to the industrialists back then, that party would be hounded in the media as far left loons.

Has the left struggle been rolled back to the brink of no return? I mean the workers are putting all of their eggs in brand Obama's basket.

This is back when the CP-USA actually had something to do with class struggle, now it's a haven for reformist and liberals who support Obama; the party did officially endorse him as candidate for president.

Absolutely not. We are still in the era of imperialism and proletarian revolution, and so long as the struggle exists there is always a chance for the left to "roll back" however it won't be the "left" as we know it today in the US or Canada where the movement has been flailing for some time. The workers who are putting their eggs in the basked of imperialism will unfortunately always exist until this system is done away with, due to the cultural hegemony the US state efficiently exercises on news and information. It's the job of "the left" to counter this.
