Obstruction

Hey. I'm in the north suburbs of Chicago, USA. I've been on the left politically my whole life, and I've grown up in a little liberal bubble. A couple of my aunts are socialists, and the whole family is very supportive of leftist thought. I feel very lucky to have grown up where I do - in a nice area, with people who accept me, having enough to eat, etc, but never having too much (teaches character, my grandpa would say).
However, I go to a private, rich, conservative high school (how I ended up there is another story itself), and, as one of the few kids on financial aid, most people just don't understand need, or the position of the working people in this country and the world. I get mad when people spew their rich lies: the poor don't want to work, the poor are lazy, "they" deserve it, I worked for this, etc. Sometimes, the things they say are so ridiculous I don't even know how to begin a response. I usually don't.
I'm also looking for my own place in all this mess. I've been reading a lot of this forum, and have read some basics (I read the Communist Manifesto first in 7th grade, and again as a freshmen, and now again as a senior). I've got more books on my list to read, and I've been looking into things around my area to get more involved.
Just don't want to get deleted as a zero-poster, really...
