I had found a set of articles debating this out as links on this site but I cant find them now. Does anyone has material that argues for struggle over the notion that we can build an alternative economy or some such thing.

Maybe you are referring to this:

Bailouts or co-operatives? - Iain McKay (http://libcom.org/library/bailouts-or-co-operatives)
Co-operatives and conflicts! - Iain McKay (http://libcom.org/library/co-operatives-conflicts)

What are your thoughts on the matter, Gumby?

Well I know Bookchin abandoned Anarchism later in his life and was not the best example of a true revolutionary but his book: Social Anarchism or Lifestyle Anarchism is helpful for this subject.
