Hi everybody!
My name is Victoria (obviously), and I am a grade 12 student living in BC, Canada. For about a year now I have been practically obsessed with Che and the Cuban Revolution in general. I am interested very much in all sorts of political theory, but I must admit that it is the left that I admire the most. I look forward to talking with everybody, and to learning more about my all time favorite historical figure as well as communism in general.

WELCOME! Im new too! And your from Canada cool. I have a question for you. How do the people there think of Che? Like do they totaly disrspect him or what?

Well, I live on the West Coast where we all share pretty much the same anti-american sentiment, seeing as they eternally fuck us over for our natural resources, such as wood and hydroelectricity. But most people just don't know who he is. I gave a speech on him to my history class about a month ago and although nobody could even name him (i held up a rage shirt and they recognized it, but didn't know who the person was!), they seemed to respect him. Most people are just uninformed, but once you explain to them the facts they tend to think he was kinda cool.

yep! I borrowed it from this guy i know, and when I asked him if i could borrow his Che shirt, he had no idea what I was talking about. I had to ask again for his Rage shirt... then he got it. It pissed me off quite a bit.... people should know what they are endorsing before they do so... but at least it was a picture of someone good, like Che.

welcome victoria. i'm also in canada although in the province everyone hates ontario. i live in ottawa. i haven't been to BC although i'm hoping Amnesty will send me there this summer.
and yes the che recognition thing is frustrating. lol there was some guy 'protesting' this summer outside confederation park. he was all by himself holding a che poster. that was it. no one knew why the hell he was there.
btw if you are intersted. there is a youth forum coming up in ottawa on international justice (particularly the developmentof the international criminal court). it completely paid for by dfait (department of foreign affairs and international trade). if you are interested check out the website [http] www.warchild.ca [http/]. it is going to be excellent. anyway welcome to the board.

Welcome.
Did you read the recent Mother Jones story on the American aquaculture/fish industry and how it has fucked up the Pacific and British Columbia? That's pretty much all I know about British Columbia, but anyway, I'm glad you're here.

nickademus: i'm probably attending a youth forum about politics, its sponsored by the federal government, takes place in ottawa around spring break time. this isn't the same one, is it? the one you are talking about sounds really interesting, i'm going to check it out! thanks for informing me! everybody here seems really nice, not like most other internet forums that i usually don't join because everybody just fights with eachother.

Nope, its not the same one. This one seems really interesting, though. I heard about the other one through my older sister who heard about it through a school counsellor. Its really cool that you're involved with stuff like that. I need to get more involved with stuff!

well victoria i really didn't become involved until i was in my 20s so i definately commend people who are involved at a young age. i met some really incredible teenagers at the amnesty int'l annual general meeting and it ade me feel like what i'm doing is next to nothing. oh well, i do what i can.
