Dia daoibh uilig, or Hello in case no-one understands Irish (a problem that's fortunately being reduced after 800 years of Britain's attempts to destroy our culture).
I'm 16 years old (17 next month), from Belfast in Ireland/Northern Ireland/British-Occupied Ireland - whatever you prefer to call it. I've had a fleeting interest in socialism for some time now but it's only been recently that this interest has blossomed.
The main thing that irks me about the world right now is not that the responsibility of most of the atrocities in the world over the last 50 years falls on the US, but the fact that most Americans are so ignorant and sheep-like that they don't understand what's going on in the world. Dubya Bush was an isolationist, and most Americans couldn't tell you where Canada is, but after Sept 11 suddenly the entire USA became experts on international affairs. Of course, all they really know is what the Ministry of Truth tells them.
It was especially at this time that I decided I would no longer keep quiet. I don't know everything there is to know on politics, but I will argue for what I believe. Evil is helped to flourish when good men keep quiet.

Hey welcome to the board, how is it in Ireland at the moment, have the troubles died down? Or is the peace process completely broken down? But anyway, welcome to the board.

Thanks for the welcome.
In response to you question, I usually say that there is no peace process here. The ministers in this new "government" (for lack of a better term) gave them two major pay raises in their first three weeks, all while people wait years for operations in hospital and unemployment grows every day.
The British and Irish Government also turn a blind eye to any actions committed by pro-Good Friday Agreement parties. They're free to get away with murder, and believe me, they have.
I was also sickened when I heard that Gerry Adams would be going to Cuba to unveil a dedication to the 1981 Hungers Strikers, when he has turned his back on everything they stood and died for.
The place I come from is a mess.

welcome.
how, do you think, might the conflict in your country be solved?

I can tell you one way that conflict can be solved, and that's with the destruction of national boundaries...
anyway, the whole fight is a nonsense, since both the UK and Ireland are moving further and further towards the european super-state...
so wtf does it matter?
the people of NI would be just as screwed under Irish capitalist control as under British capitalist control.
The fight of nations is not the important struggle, what matters is the fight of the workers.
Workers of the world unite, don't cave in someone's skull just cos their ancestors moved into your ancestors land a couple of hundred years ago. And after all, property is theft, so the land should have been forcibly Shared, and Owned by neither group.
No true socialist would fight for the irish imperialist cause, all it is concerned with is the expansion of a nation's borders, and not at all with the furthering of the worker's cause.

"No war but the class war" is a very populary slogan used by the IRSP [Irish Republican Socialist Party].
When the group was first formed (around thirty years), they were made up of Notherners, Southerners, Catholics, Protestants, Atheists, Trade Unions workers etc. etc. I think they've still got roughly the same demographic as what they started with.

The idea of an independent Northern Ireland has right-wing loyalist overtones.

:D
Where have you been hiding?
I myself am from south-west of Ormeau Park a bit. Just a stone's throw from the Lagan.
Several years ago father made a career move to the U.S., and at the time I was too young to be left behind.
I myself have always called it N. Ireland. . .it'll be a cold, rainy day in hell when I claim I'm from the U.K.

Actually, rebel monkey is right. Both countries (if I may call them so,) are moving towards the European Superstate. So regardless of what the brits did in the past to the Irish, I guess they should just make up... It seems in the best interest of your NI government anyway.

Welcome comrade. I'm ashamed to say I'm English and if I could have it any other way I would. I agree Blair is a fuckwit and I hate him and George Bush so much I actually start punching things when they do yet more things that fuck up the world. So it looks like we are on the same wavelength, like Che once said "If you tremble indignation at every injustice you are a comrade of mine.". So welcome to RevLeft comrade, and let's work to fight the British government.
