3 theft conviction = 25 years. this is unbelievable, and arnold the son of a nazi storm trooper opposed changing the law, only in the USA could a terminator become govenor, wow the american dream in all its glory:rolleyes:

Yep i think three is deffo too steep, i would say maybe five strikes. Then when someones getting to their 5th they would of surely of learn t that thieving of the poor is not the way to be going about things.
I would personally rob 4 big wealthy mansions in Beverly Hills than go legit.

The three strike law is absolutely horrid. It unfairly punishes those who commit crimes to survive.
Obama should look to reverse it, if he doesn't it is yet another item of critique the progressives can level against him.

It isn't a federal statute.
Anyway it is indeed an utterly appalling law. It shows the right wing dominance in the Supreme Court that it has not been struck down as unconstitutional.

I agree. It just makes people that have some problems "go away" for a long time and not bother the nice people in society.

Yat in places in the south with those strict laws and death penalty the crime is still out of control and cost lots and lots money to keep inmates locked up.
This proves that prison does not deal with problem why people do crime but a band aid.Well the real problem is low pay, lack of jobs and poverty .Has for repeated reapist and killers they need be in hospital not a prison.
And violent people need anger management and therapy. And some people so gone need be removed from society but should be a rehab center and may have live there.

the 3 strikes law, apart from being inhumane, insane, ignorant (in the sense they are ignoring the cause of crime), and filling up prisons, actually I'd venture to say, is a huge contributer to why California has a huge gang problem, prison is the ultimate recruiting ground and the ultimate school to turn casual criminals into professional criminals.
But whats an even bigger problem with this is the inhumaneness and lack of respect for human rights the prison system, and especially the California prison system has.

I'd like to point out that somehow an actor becoming a govoner is somehow more rediculous than say a doctor becoming a govoner, or how somehow American people vote in more rediculous people than say european people (I'm looking at you Italy), is preposterous.
That being said, Arnold is a dick, and incompitent.

You know that being the son of someone doesn't make you the same as them? Both my parents are ex-hippy teachers. I am not. It's inane to bring up Shwarzenegger's family. Also if you want to take the piss out of americans for voting in actors (although I fail to see why you would) you're over two decades too late. Laws like this serve as a wonderful way for a government to look like it is dealing with crime (which is something close to the hearts of those affected by it) without actually having to deal with crime at the roots. It doesn't take a particularly incisive mind to see that and even the biggest of morons after reflecting on the law for a few moments will be asking "how in fuck's name does this help anything?"
