I'm a new member. Only two and a half hours old and I really don't want to step on anyones toes. I have been messing around having a look at the community. I found that certain people have been banned. Can anyone tell me why this is? I didn't look at all the posts of banned (ex) members but that isn't really the point. Tell me to mind my own business but I don't believe banning people sets the correct tone. If someone says something upsetting or offensive then ignore it and move on. I don't believe in censorship , people should be able to say and write whateVer they believe however much it upsets others. Surely this is a fundamental freedom.

One of them, Fantomas was just a spammer who came on the board posting crap and winding people up. A number of the other people on the list are the same person, and Freiheit is right, it involved sept 11, and comments about now it was inneviatable. It wasn't the comments, but the use of multiple identities which was the reason for banning, that's what I can remember of it, I was pretty new then.

Also, I forgot to say, which is quite rude of me, welcome to the board! :)

i don't think fantamos is banned. . . .he just stopped posting YEAH!!!!!
one member possted support for the sept 11th attacks and malte was really emotional and banned him (i was talking to malte at the time and it really was a difficult decision for him to make). then he found out that that person was posting under numerous different names just to support his position. malte decided that was abuse of the board and banned him.
we are pretty much pro-free speach here. you don't really have to worry aboutbeing banned for any reason

I don't know too much about what happened with fantomas, I was away when it happened. But I do remember that there was a vote for him to be banned. Maybe he got the message and shoved off.

Only two members have been banned so far: Myrmidion and his multiple identities, and Fantomas after he spammed the community with anti-communist crap. The banning of Fantomas happened after the majority of the community voted for it in a survey.

Fantomas was my fault. I replied to one of his posts giving him some sensible explainations to his posts, Then he started being an idiot trying to annoy Nikademus and others. And he posted about The Khmer Rouge in a topic I started about the Herero Genocide in 1900 so I got pretty pissed off.

Hi, I'm new to the community. I'm really don't know much about communism but I've been reading about Che. I'm starting to realize how America is abusing the third world to keep us flooded with cheap goods. I hope to learn and gain different view points. It's funny I've always considered myself a republican and now i'm interested in the far left. Thanks

Well red star, you've come to the right place...
we are all about educating ourselves and eachother here... people who are just learning about Che, and just learning about the radical left are most welcome of all...
What we don't like here... wount get you banned mind you, but just get on our nerves... is falure to be open to other's points of view...
What will get you banned... is abuse of the board like the two fellows Myordren and Fantomas...
or, possibly, from biggoted remarks... but... of Malte would put it to a vote... and there would have to be a very very good reason... and even then... many people like Nickadermus and PCE are against banning... and always have been.

I was part of the RATM bb community and as some of you already know.... there were many bb users who had no significant contribution to the bb; infact, you often wondered how/why they ever came along. Many of us were there because of the message behind the band, we wanted to contribute our thoughts and ideas along with general discussion (a collective of sorts). Anyhow, there was literally a plague of idiots often making things intolerable but because we strongly opposed censorship we had no other choice than to adapt. Tolerate. I think we all know what it's like to have to put up with children who have nothing better to do than provoke bb users who take these people and their messages serious- however, censorship can NEVER be compromised.
Since RATM BB got shutdown, I've explored other communities and one aspect that stands out more than any other is that of censorship. Banning, deleting threads or posts, warning others of what they are 'allowed' to express... or not.
"If you don't like it, leave" or "This is how we choose to moderate, If you don't like it, leave"-- are typical responses. Back in the day when we had no choice but to accept the morons and the posts that came along with them seemed like such a huge inconvinience on our part, but experiencing this... only makes me proud of being part of such a community like that of RATM's.
Tolerance... isn't that what this world really needs?

you say you dont have to worry about censorship, or being banned for your views... but in the joining terms it states that right wingers are only tolerated in the "Socialism vs. Capitalism" form, and will be banned if they post elsewhere. is there a reason for this, because it does sound an awful lot like censorship to me... dont get me wrong, i love this comunity, just an insight... it doesnt seem that anyone has been banned for this as of yet, but it still strikes me as a hypocritical policy.

Someone who utilises multiple aliases in order to support his own arguments is n comrade...
altho maybe we should let him back simply because he needs education as to why that is so abusive of the trust that any co operative socialist society must by necesitty be built upon...
