I have seen the error in my ways and alot of perhaps the error of the leftists. I now see it as counterproductive to criticise people and or groups on the basis of the past. It is pointless to refuse to unite with people based on there view of stalin, mao, lenin or many more. The fact is we all have very similar views and viewing discussions about these figures we cannot prove conlusively either way whether these people were right or wrong to do the things they did or whther they actually did the things they did. When i have talked to stalinists the reason they are stalinists is becasue they think he did good things, but many of these things they think he did would not be debated and would be seen as generally good. What we really argue about is what he actually did which is pointless as none (or very few) believe that the things he is accused of doing were good.

What i have found is i agree completely with very few people if not anyone on this forum on every issue does this mean we should all form our own political parties and gruops only for people who share our exact views? of course not.

The conflict often comes in certain sects pointing to theories and models and policies of the past which were developed by such controversial figures in order to build socialism, and the disagreements stem from there.

But you are right in the sense that they are elements of the past in context. We cannot entirely apply the plans of past revolutionary conditions to modern situations in most cases, but we can respect the theories and ideas of divergent/competing sects. We must look to the past to look forward, but if the past has taught us anything it is that we need new ideas.
